Jeremy Wiebe here at Imaginet created a handy tool for managing SQL aliases:

The SQL Aliaser tool aims to solve one small problem: managing an alias for a SQL Server. This tool allows you to alias a remote SQL Server to your local SQL Server. Currently it is very limited in functionality, but it makes the process of flipping between the remote SQL Server and your local instance as easy as clicking a single button. This release supports 64-bit platforms. Future releases may add support for multiple concurrent aliases, controlling what transport is used for the local alias, etc. Feel free to email other ideas/suggestions.

You can find more information on our imaginet community site here.
