TFS Build Explorer Folders–Finally
If you have a lot of TFS build definitions for your projects, its been a bit of a hassle that there is no way to organize and manage them in Team Explorer other than a long flat list. Well, the good folks at Inmeta have released the Inmeta Build Explorer tool which displays build definitions in a hierarchy where names use a . notation to delineate the hierarchy. Since most folks have been implementing a naming standard for builds which at least organize build definitions for ordering, this doesn’t ......

I’m IN!
Got an email this morning.(yes I checked and it wasn’t an April Fools joke) congratulating me on becoming a Microsoft MVP. I’ve been working with and among MVP’s for quite a while and quite frankly felt left out. Well, I’m finally part of the crowd. I received an MVP for Visual Studio ALM. This makes me VERY proud as I know the high caliber of the existing Visual Studio ALM MVP’s and am honored to now count myself among them. Now my challenge is to make sure I continue to do those things that got ......

This is NOT another goodbye 2009 or 2000’s blog post
I’m really not one to reflect. I prefer to live in the present and consider the future. As such, rather than saying goodbye to 2009 I’m saying Hello to 2010. I’m looking forward to my first full year at Imaginet Resources Corp. I’ve started to grow the ALM practice and think 2010 will see some of the seeds planted in 2009 blossom. I’m looking forward to embracing Lean Software Engineering practices. I’m starting 2010 by attending a Kanban Coaching Workshop in Feb. I’ve been spending some time reading ......

Video Recording in VS 2010 Test Runner not working?
Well, it turns out that there is a bit of a setup process that needs to be followed to get it working. It’s all outlined in the Visual Studio Team Test blog entry here. Basically, you have to install and patch Windows Media Encoder to get the Test Runner to capture and index video. I know I was puzzled by this and suspect that many of you have been as well. Where is the Team System?
Folks with MSDN Subscriber licenses going to grab the latest version of VS2010 may wonder ‘Where is Team System? Team Suite? Team Developer? Team Architect?’ They are gone! Does that mean that MS is getting out of the ALM toolset market? Or does it mean that the ‘Team’ stuff is being released later? The answer is NEITHER. The branding, naming and licensing of Visual Studio is changing for the 2010 version. The ‘Team System’ branding is being dropped. What ‘used’ to be the ‘Team’ client products are ......

Exciting Changes
Well I did it! Today I handed in my resignation from EDS to accept an exiting new opportunity. I’m going to join my good friend Joel Semeniuk at imaginet resources. I’ll be leading the ALM consulting practice. This will not only leverage my Visual Studio ......
