Ever heard of Goldbach’s conjecture?  Did you recognize the heuristic justification in the subject line of this post?  If so, damn you’re smart.

The point of this post is to express the sheer “cool factor” I feel nearly every day in interacting with the people I do.  As a business development guy (i.e., sales, marketing, partnerships, etc.), I’m impressed by the uncanny knowledge of the people I’m lucky enough to talk with.  I guess that’s just a benefit of being in the software industry – particularly the .NET world where the geniuses tend to congregate! J

I particularly appreciate when they send me e-mails with subject lines such as “First Order Logic and The Ternary Form of Goldbach's Conjecture” where I have to spend 20 minutes on MSN (ok, or Google) to figure out what the heck they’re talking about!  I guess I missed some of the mathematics courses taught in college.  It might have something to do with being a business geek instead of a technology geek.  I’m not sure.  However, I’m constantly having a great time getting to know the technology geeks.  This is what brings me to my point…

Being a geek has taken on new meaning to me.  It no longer signifies some form of leprosy; rather it signifies excellence and passion in a specific pursuit.  For each of us, that pursuit is different, but it is the commitment to our unique pursuit that labels us as a geek.  I’m personally proud of being a geek, proud to be associated with geeks, and look forward to meeting and becoming friends with many more geeks in the future.

Special thanks to CJB for stimulating this thought process for me!
