Whew, time is flying fast lately. These past couple of weeks have been blurry-fast. The past year has gone fast too, as evidenced by the celebration of my 1 year anniversary with my wife, Belinda. May 4th is our anniversary. We went out for a steak dinner at our favorite local place in Madison. I had roses waiting for her when she came home, and she got me an indoor golf putting practice green.
This Friday night, we continued our celebration, as we went to La Crosse, WI with my brother and his girlfriend. We ate a great steak dinner at the 3 Rivers Lodge, then we went to the George Carlin show. I normally really appreciate George’s humor, but quite frankly he sucked on Friday. Then, to the surprise of the girls, Adam (my brother) and I had arranged for a limo to pick us up. We then went to Grand Dad’s Bluff. It’s an amazingly beautiful place overlooking several states. Belinda and I had gone there shortly after we first started dating, so there were particular romantic overtones to Friday night’s selection of location. We took the short walk from the parking area out to the top of the bluff. I gave a very heartfelt speech to Belinda eventually asking her if she would re-marry and gave her a diamond necklace. Then, my younger brother started his speech (one of the best I’ve ever heard, btw.) In the end, he knelt down and asked Bethany to marry him. It was an exciting night and a great way to celebrate an anniversary (for Belinda and I) and to start an engagement (for Adam and Bethany.)
Then, Saturday night, we continued the anniversary celebration by going out with a couple of our friends – Chris & Billie. We went to The Fields in the Wisconsin Dells. It is a first-class establishment with amazing food and drinks. We had great conversation with good friends and had a wonderful night.
Now, on Sunday, it’s Mother’s Day, so we’re getting together with all of Belinda’s family at the Madison Zoo (Vilas Zoo) where we’ve gathered every year so far (since Belinda first became a mom). Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we’ll have a great conclusion to a wonderful week of celebrating our first anniversary.
