Not sure the thinking behind the name. With the World Series just around the corner, one would think that a pop-fly is not a good thing (unless it was a sacrifice). Another possible name might have been ground-rule double (not quite out of the park--but it's still in Beta).
Anyway, a pretty cool Silverlight mashup building application called Popfly was just released today. I spent 2:45 creating my first mashup that got pictures from Flickr and put them on a picture stack. You could then navigate through the pictures very nicely with the embedded control. Kind of cool considering it only took 2 minutes and 45 seconds with no code.
Here it is:
What else can you do with Popfly you ask?
1. Create a slideshow on your web page (pictures from Flickr--no code)
2. Create a map with all of your geotagged images (with no code)
3. Create a new home page if you don't have one.
4. Search through other shared mashups for something you hadn't thought of yet.
5. Create a new mashup block with code of your own--looks pretty easy (but this is where the code comes in).
Then to keep things going...I thought I'd take a shot at the politicians that are literally driving me nuts at this point--at least they are starting to drop out now.
Don't get discouraged if you get an Oops screen (error page) when doing the development--keep in mind it's beta people. But have fun and do something cool.
