All the latest tech got met thinking...

All the latest tech got met thinking--"Are we really moving forward?"  We are in love with our tech.  We have gadgets for this, that and the other.  We have so many gadgets we have to slog them together (phone, mp3, video, wi-fi).  In the end, are we better?

Take the CD--it was revolutionary because we went from a world of analog devices (LP, 8-track, Cassette) to the wonderful world of digital music--the "kids" don't remember how bad the medium we used was!

We now take the high-quality CD and "rip it"--in mores ways than one--to our gadget.  We may choose different fidelity based on whether we 1, 4, 8 or 80GB for storage, but the story is still the same--out with the good and in with the bad.  But we're getting better right?

What about the phone--there was a time we could actually leave work.

Now I have to hold back the rage when the person sitting behind me can't figure out how to silence his ringer fast enough during the middle of Yo Yo Ma.  People, we've had cell phones for 10 years now, can't you figure out the off button.  It's the first thing you should learn when you get a new phone--at least have the courtesy to silence your ringer (oh yeah, they don't teach courtesy at school anymore--it might offend someone).

When did start wanting to be in line so bad for this stuff that it became "cool" to camp out just to be in "the line"?

Have we lost our sanity? or are we willing to just sacrifice ourselves at the alter of the immediate?
