Job description:
"Spotlight Mobile was started in 2002 by graduates of the Human-Computer Interaction Lab at Cornell University. We're known for our innovative mobile applications, from WiFi-triggered museum tours at the Smithsonian to GPS-guided tours of the Canadian Rockies. We also write apps for the desktop and increasingly for the web.
We're a small company, but we are growing. We need smart programmers, but what we really need are smart _people_. We wear a lot of different hats and work with a lot of different technologies, so we need people who are versatile and enjoy learning new things.
What we're looking for in you:
• A passion for programming, design, and interfaces
• Experience with the C# language
• Good UI design skills
• Good communication skills
Fun facts: We use Windows, Mac and Linux. We like C# because we are able to use it on handhelds, for the desktop, and for the web, although we don't use the ASP.NET framework. We also do a lot of work in Flash, but we don't use the Macromedia Flash IDE.
Don't worry about having experience with any specific technologies. We are more interested in your accomplishments thus far, and your overall aptitude as a programmer."
Cool Things:
• "Smart People"--it's not the technology stupid!
• "Fun Facts"--we ARE fun!
• "Don't worry..."(we're looking at the value of the person, not the degrees/certs)
They list what is important, but when it really comes down to it, they aren't interested in certifications, cursory knowledge, or long lists of skills--they want passion. Passion about technology demonstrated by what you've done. Passion about learning. Passion about doing cool things.
If this sounds interesting to you, check out Joel Spolsky's job site.
