Last year the IPHONE, this year the MacBook Air billed as the world's thinnest notebook was announced this week at the Macworld Expo Show in San Francisco. Apple's products are very cool looking and very appealing to students.
The MacBook Air features a 13.3-inch LED-backlit widescreen display that has a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution. The backlighting saves power and provides "instant on" response from the moment you turn it on. The device has a slightly wedge-shaped profile. It weighs about 3 pounds, and sports a thickness of 0.16-0.76 inches. It's 12.8 inches wide and 8.95 inches deep. Intel made the customized Core 2 Duo CPU chip. Current price is $1799 and I'm sure high school graduates might be asking for this to use in college.
There is no optical drive built in to this but a USB optical drive can be purchased. The five hour battery is nice too.
Here's a picture and the specs can be found here.
