Low tech in Maui

When I was recently in Maui, I noticed that this was a low tech island. No one walking around blabbing on their cell phone in restaurants and no blue tooth ear devices hanging off someone's ear. No one using a laptop at Starbucks?? I was fortunate enough to get a wireless connection from the condo that I was staying at. The wireless was wide open with no security installed. Before the trip, I went online to see where the hot spots would be on the island and there weren't that many. I'm sure many of the hotels on the island had connectivity but were not listed on the site. Then again, why would anyone go to Maui on vacation and bring a laptop besides me? So make me feel better, who else brings their laptop on vacation and goes online to check e-mail etc?
