Brian Scarbeau Insights from a seasoned Computer Science Trainer
A code camp! That's what was going on yesterday at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, FL. This Microsoft event brings out developers from around the state to meet for a day and just talk about technology. There were several tracks to choose from and plenty of time to mingle with colleagues during the day and at night if you wanted. I had an opportunity to speak during one of the tracks on dotnetnukes modules. It was a lot of fun for me to do this. More importantly was the fact that I met developers who were creating some cool modules to use in dotnetnuke. I also met two great guys, Ryan Morgan and Tracy Wittenkeller who do a great job on skinning sites created with dotnetnuke. They shared secrets of the trade during their talks during the day. Finally, it was great to be with Stan Schultes who has done a series of webcasts on dotnetnuke and knows his stuff. All these people gave up their time on Saturday to learn more about this great technology. I was able to show developers how easy it was to intall a dotnetnuke site using Visual Web Developer Express & SQL Express and the new dotnetnuke starter kit. I also gave a demo of opensmartmodule which allows you to take a module that you created in Visual Web Developer and be able to drop that module with an easy install wizard that comes with opensmartmodule. It's great to share information that I know and learn from others. This is what I try to teach my students in my class. All in all, it was a great day to be with motivated developers willing to learn more. Kudos to the local Orlando Ineta group and Micrsoft for putting this on.
