Happy Holidays from DotNetNuke!
Version 5.0 is finally released and available for download at their site. Simply login and click on the Download icon to find it. DotNetNuke 5.x is the "next generation" development branch of the DotNetNuke web application framework. DotNetNuke 5.x is available as a general public release which means it can reliably be used in a production environment. Self promotion: If you need a book to help you learn then you can pre-order the DotNetNuke version 5 book from Wrox which I co-authored with Darrell...

DotNetNuke Open Force Connections
Looks like the DotNetNuke Open Force Connection is a successful event this week in Las Vegas. Bloggers have been writing daily about what's going on. My writing colleagues, Darrell Hardy and Ryan Morgan are there. Ryan is also doing a presentation on skinning. There are several key interviews that are happening this week at the conference. The big news is that DotNetNuke version 5.0 RC2 can now be downloaded by everyone to take a look. Don't plan on using it for production. Looks like it might be...

New DotNetNuke Videos on JumpstartTv
Will Strohl whose the new President of the Orlando DotNetNuke User Group has created a series of videos to help users in the DotNetNuke community. Here's the list: What Is DotNetNuke®? - In this video, I attempt to give a brief overview of what DotNetNuke® is, and what it can do for you. DotNetNuke® Tour - An overview of some of the most common DotNetNuke® features. DotNetNuke® Terminology - Learn some of the "lingo" you might see used on the DotNetNuke® forums or documentation. Where Do I Download...

Learn about the DotNetNuke® Map Module
ODUG Vice President Kurt Amstutz will be talking about the recently released Map Module at next Tuesday's Orlando DotNetNuke User Group meeting. I've been busy writing my chapters for the DotNetNuke 5 book and didn't make the last meeting. I'll be at this one. I recruited Kurt last spring to put this presentation on. Here's some information on the module: The DotNetNuke® Map Module project is an initiative crafted from very popular smash up DotNetNuke® Map Module, originally called GoMap. The module,...

Inbetween Day 1 @ Tech Ed
The Microsoft Community event had a great opening today at the Orlando Convention Center where Tech Ed has been going on all week. As I arrived and drove past the convention center, I noticed the lack of Microsoft advertising outside the building. In past years, you would see Microsoft plastered all over the place like on busses, light poles, and outside the building. I wasn't sure why. What was nice about this event was that Joe Healy, the Florida Microsoft evangelist, was all over the place making...

Over a thousand are coming...
Joe Healy, the Microsoft genius, who has planned this upcoming weekend In Between Events, asked for a head count from all of us who have planned events for this coming weekend. I was asked some time ago to head up the DotNetNuke Events for the day and we have 173 coming to that event. The room sits 210 so we have room for more! There will be over 1200 coming for the Saturday and Sunday events. Check out the inbetween site to see what's going on. This event is free and the only thing you need to pay...

A hodgepodge of DotNetNuke Topics
The Orlando DotNetNuke User Group had a geat meeting on Saturday. The morning started early when Mike Webb and Dave Dyer made the trip in for 10 am from Vero Beach to Orlando. Dave was going to update the older version of DotNetNuke that Lake Highland Prep had running on their server to the current version and he wanted to view everything first before he started the intallation process. Dave had started the install process and just ran into one problem regarding the new folder structure and was able...

Final day for me at the MVP Summit
Today was extremely busy and exhausting as well. The routine here is to wake up early, grab a boxed breakfast and coffee in the huge ballroom at the hotel and then run off to where the buses are parked to take you to the Redmond Microsoft campus. I scheduled meetings with some Microsoft personnel today along with poking my head into some of the sessions that were going on at the Conference Center. I continued to evangelize computer science education and spoke with interested people about the concerns...

Day 2 @ Microsoft MVP Summit
Well the weather in April is quite different than the weather in Orlando, FL at this time of year. However, I did notice that there is more color in the trees and plants even though it's cold. I spent most of the morning at an XNA workshop. Even though I'm an ASP.NET MVP, there are certain events that we can go to outside our area. It was interesting to listen to the XNA concerns that the MVP folks had. The speaker who is a senior manager mentioned XNA being used in colleges and that opened up the...

Getting to Seattle for the Microsoft MVP Summit Day 1
I arrived early at the airport and met up with our Microsoft local leader Joe, Devfish, Healy. Joe was in high spirits banging away on his keyboard at 7 am! Joe drove from Tampa to Orlando to take the Alaskan Airlines direct flight to Seattle. Joe feels so committed to the MVP program that he makes sure he has money in his budget to go to this event and hook up with the user group leaders at this event. Shawn Weisfeld, a C# MVP and Onetug leader, was next to arrive at the gate. We all boarded the...

Orlando DotNetNuke User Group Meeting on Skinning
Will Strohl, also known as hismightiness on the DotNetNuke forum site, did a great job on Saturday at our user group meeting. Skinning is always a popular topic with those that use DotNetNuke. You need to decide to either purchase the many skins available on the DotNetNuke marketplace site or at snowcovered or to design your own. Designing your own requires some skill at graphics and skill at putting all the files together with the tokens you want to use and the css style as well. It's not for the...

Orlando DotNetNuke User Group Well Represented At The Orlando Code Camp
There were a couple of hundred Code Campers on Saturday in Heathrow, FL at Seminole Community College. The day was jam packed with 56 sessions and 13 tracks. Kudos to Microsoft MVP Shawn Weisfeld for organizing the event and running around to make sure everything was working correctly. Another kudos to Microsoft DevFish Joe Healy for always trying to hook you up with someone he knows that would be a good network contact for you. I heard that the infamous Microsoft Guru Russ Fustino was there but...
