Here's an event that I'm doing for the San Diego Software Industry Council next week. If you're in/near San Diego, and are interested in service-oriented architecture and distributed application topology, then this should be of interest to you!

SOA that Talks
SOA/Web Services BIG

May 08, 2007

Modern software architectures are all about service orientation, and service-oriented architectures lead to distributed services. Distributed services, while promoting agility, scalability, and re-composition, can also add a new layer of complexity. Add factors such as inter-enterprise communications, and perhaps communications that span firewalls or implementation stacks from different vendors, and communications quickly evolves into something requiring special attention in order to ensure a successful implementation.

When faced with how to make services inter-communicate, several options are available. This session will explore some of the more popular options, including SOAP, Windows Communications Foundation, and REST. We will examine the pros and cons of each alternative, as well as exploring real-world factors such as security and scalability. Bring your questions about wiring up distributed services, and find out how to pick the right technology for a specific need.
