Developer Toolkit – Managed Spy

Here is a useful tool for your developer toolkit.  It’s called Managed Spy and is similar in concept to Spy ++ except it can spy Windows Forms .NET objects.

I needed to find what controls were in a Windows Forms control hierarchy.  It worked quite well and helped me accomplish what I was trying to do.

Here is the link (originally appearing in MSDN, 2006):

Here is an example screen shot of what you’ll see when running the application:

4 Years Ago - Anniversary

Today is my 4 year anniversary with Heather from the day we met!!!  We met on May 23, 2004 at a coffee shop in Columbia, Missouri.  She was reading a book and I went over and said hi.  Coffee Shops are a great way to meet people by the way.  Anyway, I got her phone number and gave her mine.  Of course she lost my phone number (or so she says). :) I called her a couple of days afterwards and we fell in love and the rest is history.  Of course we had a kiddo in between.  Hehehehehe.

To celebrate we are going out tonight to a really nice restaurant and afterwards to a coffee shop.  I’m also taking off tomorrow to celebrate and hang out with my family.  Then after that I’m going to Microsoft PDC next week!

Here are some photos of us:

We are so happy!  Heather has really made my life so enjoyable.  So here’s to another year of our relationship!  For those of you who don’t have a significant other - be patient they will turn up!

Lego Lego Lego – Tower of Power

Ok my son (who is 3 years old) and I played Lego’s last night and had a fun time.  Here is a photo of my son and the start of the Lego tower:

My son loves playing with Lego toys.  He loves building robots, castles, and towers!!!  He doesn’t like when I make robots sounds.  It seems to scare him.  So I don’t do that anymore…  Word to the wise don’t do stuff that scares your kids.  Hehehehehe.

Anyway…  Here is the end result:

The tower was over 4.5 ft. tall.  We almost got all the Lego pieces on it before my son had me put a funky flower piece on the top.  I told him that it wouldn’t work but he insisted.  After that flower piece was put on it came tumbling down.  Fun Times!

My First Blog Post

Hello! Welcome to my blog!  My name is Blake and this is my first blog post ever! I have been wanting to start a blog for the last couple of years but... well... you know how things go...  :)  I plan this blog to be used for different purposes: family stuff, fun staff, rants, venting, and of course computer programing and methodologies!

So let me tell you a little bit more about myself:  I'm a Missourian.  I have lived in Kansas City, Missouri most my life.  I went to University of Missouri-Rolla for my bachelors in computer engineering.  I have an open view on things and am also very practical.  I also like to discuss things and learn how other people think.

So here's a picture of me (Note all the coffee cups, soda, and orange juice... I'm a huge coffee fan!):

Here is my family (Heather and James):

The most important thing to me is my family.  Becoming a father and sugar-daddy :) changes so many things...  :) heheheheh... I'll reflect on this later...  But bottom line family is #1 priority for me.  I have so many experiences I want to share with Heather as well I have so many things I want to teach and show my son.  I want to be one of those dads that passes his son wisdom and knowledge through his own actions, anecdotes, and of course by spending time together!  I could definitely see a father and son computer programming business in the future! :)

I am a huge video game player.  I love role-playing based games like Balder's Gate II, KOTOR, Jade Empire, Mass Effect, Elder Scrolls.  I'll be blogging my top 10 video games in a later post.  What I like about Video Games is they make me not have to think that hard and I can kind of lose myself.  Whatever you have that does that for yourself do it and don't have any regrets!!!

I also love to read books although I am a bit picky.  I may be reading 3-5 books at a time and if a book loses me I don't ever read it again.  My favorite reading is Fantasy-based books by authors such as Terry Goodkind, Raymond E Fiest, R A Salvatore.  I'll be blogging on this as well.

In terms of programming.  I consider myself a solution architect specializing in custom .NET development and SharePoint.  At some point in the future I'll be blogging about technology and my thoughts!

I am currently working at AJI Software with Jeff Julian, John Alexander, and Jerod Crump.  I'm having a great time.  These guys share some of the same core beliefs about family and work that I do.  Its great to work with them.

So in conclusion I look forward to sharing more about myself, my world-view, and of course my family!  Shoot me a comment if you have any thoughts or questions!
