May 2004 Entries

I guess I have TechEd on the brain today.  For those of you who know me, you won't be surprised to hear me pointing out some great opportunities for women at TechEd.  First is Julie Lerman's Birds of a Feather session, time and place TBA.

Women Who Code : TechEd Edition This will be an opportunity to continue conversations begun at PDC as well as the TechEd 2004 Women in I.T. Luncheon. Meet other women who are programmers and discover that you are not, in fact, an alien! Chat about our visibility in the industry and other related issues that sometimes make us scratch our heads and wonder. Julie Lerman-The Data Farm

And second is the Women in Technology Luncheon on Wednesday, May 26th from 11:30 - 2:00.

People seem to want to know which TechEd events I will have the pleasure of attending.  I will be in San Diego and my calendar is getting tight - so if you want to meet with me let me know soon.  I will be in Sao Paulo in July and I can't wait to meet the devs in LATAM who have a ton of great energy and momentum going!  I am also part of the team that runs the Imagine Cup and if you don't know what that is, you should! Especially if you are a student.  The Imagine Cup Finals are taking place in Brazil this year. And I may make a quick trip to Amsterdam - we will see about that.  That is what I know right now.  Stay tuned.
Another cool thing at TechEd - it just seems packed with interesting things and fun too this year - many of the best authors in the .NET community will be taking over one of the developer team's cabanas on Tuesday, May 25th from 5:00 - 6:15 pm.  It will be a great chance to ask them some questions about their topics of expertise, writing a book or get some free consulting (kidding).  It will be a casual chance to follow up on a question from a session or ask about anything that has you stumped.  I know Dave Sussman, Alex Homer, Billy Hollis, Rocky Lhotka, Bill Evjen, Doug Seven, Stephen Walther, Dan Kent, and many others will be there.  Stop by and check it out.

On Thursday, May 27th from 11:45 - 12:30 there is a session at TechEd called, “Software Legends Panel: .NET Myth Busters.”  It promises to be a fun one with the Software Legends discussing and busting common .NET myths!  I have had the pleasure of assisting in the planning for this panel and the number one myth looks to be “C# and Visual Basic .NET are the same.”  I am sure the myth busting will be interesting and spark some potentially heated debates among this panel of legends.  The panel includes a cast of everyone's favorites - Billy Hollis, Rocky Lhotka, Juval Lowy, David Platt, Jeff Richter and Stephen Walther.  The moderator will be David Chappell.

Make sure this one is on your TechEd schedule!

I am all set up in my new office at Microsoft!  It has been a busy couple of weeks getting here. I have a feeling that I am going to build up some serious frequent flyer miles and my suitcase will be well worn.
