Kalam, Stallman discuss open source software

the last one just does not sound too good to me.

Yeh, sounds horrible !!! I was just wondering about stallman's idea behind giving for free...If everything is going for free, who is earning out that? We only get a VIRUS for free in future. Nothing else :) 2/9/2004 4:04 AM | Sudhakar

This comment needs a lot of analysis.

1. A Virus for free
It is the Patented software that attract more viruses than FOSS.
2. Who is earning
There are now corporates who can patent anything. Knowledge should be freely spread, or India could not have discovered ZERO, and just gave it to the world for free.
3. We Indians have a lot to gain from FOSS.. People can still flourish by customising software, but not milk the holy cow dry with patented software.
4. For the armed forces it must be only FOSS, else one day your missiles have a chance to fire upon yourseves. 1/12/2005 7:22 AM | ravi

India must play now on an importnat role in use, development and advocacy of OSS/FS in developing countries. This can be best done when we start using OSS/FS in most government departments and at national networks like NIC, ERNET etc
