I have recently been invited to join the Microsoft Cloud Advisory group and have just spent the last week at an SDR getting to understand all the wonderful cloud stuff. With the less than estatic response to Vista it struck me that what is needed is a common sense approach to this... Vista in many ways is 'where its at' as a developer there are a lot of features that are already there for you to use - .Net 3 for instance but it feels that unless you have a very good machine of vintage two seconds ago it runs like a dog!! According to a report from CRN, Microsoft plans to allow users of the Web Server SKU in Windows Server 2008 to 'run any type of database software with no limit on the number of users, provided they deploy it as an Internet-facing front-end server.' The previous limit was 50 users. Microsoft is releasing on Wednesday a technology preview of its Volta Web developer toolset, which is intended to make it easier to build multitier Web applications, including applications useful in SaaS (software as a service) environments.
