I've been considering power usage of all my electrical gizmos......

In my house I have:

  • 2 routers (one per broadband connection)
  • 3 switches
  • 1 x Server
  • 1 x NAS
  • 1 x Slingbox
  • 1 x iMac
  • 3 x Laptops

Now in the main only the routers, switches and NAS are on all the time. But I've got to thinking I should kill them overnight.

Now I have one router - a BT Home Hub that feeds my BT vision box and needs to be left on for overnight updates.

The rest can 'be off'!!!

What I need is a way to just switch them all on as needed!!

Gets you thinking though.....

Routers? Laptops? Pffft. There's bigger stuff to worry about! Electric water heater, electric dryer, and air conditioner / heat pump are usually the big culprits. You could almost run all the stuff in your list from a hamster in a wheel.
