Although the new open format Microsoft have introduced for Office 2007 will soon be the defacto standard in the interim most businesses need to exchange documents in the good old Office 97/2003 format. Remembering to save things correctly can become a chore. So to save having to think change the default save to the old format. To do this do the following:

  1. Open a document
  2. Click the Office button
  3. In Options choose save then 'save files in the format'
  4. Select 97/2003 format
  5. Click OK

Does anyone know what the impact will be on the document metadata or searching if a Word 2007 document is saved in 97 format.

Scenario is, content publisher produces a document with automated metadata in word 2007 and published into MOSS 2007 document library in the 97 format. General users only have Office 97 on desktop so will be viewing all content in IE6 and Word 97, will the metadata entered still be available/searchable by MOSS for the general user?

Cheers
