My muse for the week is simple...now BizTalk 2004 has come of age (16 not yet 21) and the major growing pains are over we now have a situation where the product is not just about EAI and B2B. We have a set of tools that facilitate the rapid deployment of Business process using .Net technologies.

So what do I mean by that? Well lets start using BizTalk 2004 in application solutions. Orchestration has come of age, the plumbing issue has been cracked and we now have a stonking Rules Engine. This means we can start leveraging BizTalk 2004 into core development and its only going to get better as Microsoft bring on the goodies in the next few years.

So what do we need ? Orchestration Lite, BizTalk 2004 component solution palette and integration of BizTalk 2004 shapes into SQL Server (watch this space). We are fired up and ready to go.

Andy this is definitely a valid observation. The days of having to write hundreds lines of C# to codify a business process are receding.

And yet the (perceived...) cost and complexity of a full BTS solution is going to scare off smaller projects that would otherwise benefit from it.

An "orchestration lite" that allows you to model business processes without buying in to an entire BTS project in one go has two advantages: First it can reduce the cost of implementing a project, but secondly it can only act to drive adoption of BTS2004 and hence act as a gateway to larger, full scale projects.
