The Microsoft Enterprise Instrumentation framework (EIF) enables applications built on the .NET Framework to be instrumented for manageability in a production environment. This framework provides an extensible event schema and unified API which leverages existing eventing, logging and tracing mechanisms built into Windows, including WMI, the Windows Event Log, and Windows Event Tracing. This framework plays a key part in a number of the Microsoft application blocks particulary the Exception block.

The Enterprise Instrumentation Framework was previously available only to MSDNU and MSDNE subscribers, but now is available via the download center for all Microsoft customers.

I think that you will find that the EIF has nothing to do with the Exception Management Application Block. EIF is a completely separate thing.

Dave,

Have a read...

Been there; Done that; Wrote an article for the April issue of .NET Developer's Journal on the EMAB. The EIF and the EMAB are two completely separate entities. Period. Hard Stop.

Ok, this is very confusing for everyone......

If you are using EIF should you bother with EMAB, if so why?

BTW the http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/productinfo/enterprise/eif/default.aspx?pull=/library/en-us/dnbda/html/exceptdotnet.asp#emag_exceptdotnet_topic9 link doesn't work!!!

As i have observed EIF although provides core level functionality while Logging Application block one higher level of abstraction. In application block you dont have to do every thing . But I am still trying to which one is better.

I have application that extencively uses EIF. Any recommendation, how to migrate to LAB?
