Non-Technical
Anything I think worth mentioning that is not of a 'coding' nature.
Absolutely nothing technical or Silverlight-related so feel free to pass on this one... I truly agree with the adage that "You're only as old as you feel", but hey, today I feel about 110. I'm sore head to foot and have come to the realization that I'm too old be to crawling around in the attic all afternoon :( Almost 20 years ago I ran two new circuits and installed two identical light/fan kits in the two bathrooms at the house. The master bath gets all the use and the fan in there is starting to...
It's very easy for me to think too hard on this, but I want to give a personal thanks from me and my family to everyone that's spent time in the service of our country. My grandfather was in a tank in the US Army in WWI and my father was a Marine on Iwo Jima in WWII. I served in the US Army from June 30, 1970 to June 23, 1973. I'm proud to have done so and am proud of all of you that have done so as well. If you work with someone that served, please tell him or her thanks... trust me, they'll appreciate...
On Vacation Even Silverlight fanatics take time off, so to celebrate the anniversary of my birth 60 years ago on the 2nd of August, and my wedding anniversary 36 years ago on the 5th, I am going to be unavailable by any normal means. I will be nowhere near electricity, running water, the internet, cellphones, etc. I will, however, be near a lake and trout: That is a link to a full image and is a picture I took myself at 7:30am on August 22, 2004. It is taken from my fishing spot facing south. Here...
If you're not in Phoenix, or more particularly if you're not in North Phoenix, Action Auto Repair is probably out of your way, but if it isn't out of the way, you should definitely consider going there for all your work. I've been using Tom and the guys there for at least 10 years, and some of the perks I receive is because of that history, but I think some of it is just the way Tom operates. He always checks my vehicle over to make sure that not only is what I took it in there getting fixed, but...
Chad Campbell (no relation) called me out in his Meme blog post. I saw his post earlier this week, and have been waiting until I had some time, so here goes... How old were you when you first started programming? I turned my first line of code when I was a Sophomore in college in the fall of 1967, so that would make me 19 at the time. I think I got a C in the Fortran IV class because I just couldn't "get it". This was a large class and programs were done on punch cards batched overnight to some huge...
This is definitely not remotely technical, so feel free to just nuke it and go on... but it's something I want to get off my chest :) The title just about says it all, but here's the deal... When I go to Costco, Sam's Club, Wal*Mart, *.*Mart, I go in the entrance, and take the very first parking place (farthest from the store) that has at least a couple empty spots around it. I don't have a brand-new vehicle, as a matter-of-fact, that whole question is a sore spot of it's own because I consider it...
I was at the VS2008 "Heroes Happen Here" Launch Event in Phoenix yesterday so am somewhat backed up on everything, but before the day gets rolling, there are some congratulatory messages to pass along, and I'm going to do them alphabetically by first name: Adam Kinney -- Happy Birthday man... hope you have a great day. Great job in the movie :) Frank LaVigne -- Congratulations on getting MVP once again!!! I'll give a link, but can't test it from inside this facility, just go to FranksWorld.com and...
It's Friday afternoon, I'm tired of looking at Oracle scripts and thought I'd relate a funny story from Dave V3.0. If I consider going to school, and all the normal things up to the point that some exception happened as V1.0, I'll skip what I consider V2.0, but V3.0 is definitely the 3 years I spent in the U.S. Army 1970-1973. Maybe it's the fact that I'm listening to some rhythm & blues from the 60's back when I was playing lead guitar for a living in a rhythm & blues band (during Dave V2.0),...
No really... this is good :) I have a Samsung A900, and am not a 'talk' person, so my minutes are way low every month. I didn't even do text until Adam Kinney asked me to hook SilverlightCream up with Twitter But I DO email. The facility I am in does not allow much in the way of email or outside connections (see innumerable past posts). So I use Sprint Mobile eMail to connect to my 3 main addresses. Anything of importance, I can forward to my work OWA which IS allowed in my client's facility, and...
I received email from Fayez Mutairi, and he asked "Have you ever seen your blog posts in a web browser"? ... ummm... maybe not, or obviously not in a manner that looked bad I was reading his email on my cell phone, and obviously couldn't see the very detailed images he sent me (thanks -- I did later!). Apparently whatever Mr. Mutairi is using for reading my feed isn't dealing well with my fake XAML titles on my Tooltips -- too bad, I thought they were clever :) So... I have changed them all to remove...
