Resolved the Dell ‘Wandering Mouse’

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 running Vista that I think from the beginning had the Wandering Mouse problem that various people on the interweb have complained about.

A few notes before I say what my solution was:

  1. I do NOT have that stupid little goober between the G and H key
  2. I do NOT rest my hand/finger/or part thereof on the touchpad
  3. The touchpad is a small contained area, no large touch areas

In the original setup, I had no control over the touchpad either, which sort of surprised me.

My solution? I logged into Dell, and downloaded a new driver for my touchpad from Synaptics.

Once installed, I now have a tray icon (that I can get rid of) that allows me to configure the sensitivity of the pad. I’ve put up 3 blog posts, plus this one without the mouse wandering around at all, and what a relief that’s been!
