Silverlight Firestarter this Thursday - Don't Forget!!

This is a great week to be in Seattle... and no I'm not... but hey, keep reading!

As announced by Tim Heuer: It’s Silverlight week in Seattle beginning tonight at the .NET DA User Group meeting with none-other than the illustrious Silverlight Geek TM himself, Jesse Liberty presenting on .NET RIA Services!

Tomorrow is a Silverlight Nerd Dinner where you can feel right at home with others that don't have a clue about what fork to use, or why doesn't all food come either rolled up or flat and easy to hold?

Thursday evening, Tim Heuer, the Silverlight pride of Phoenix will be speaking at the Interact group on styling/templating and behaviors.

Starting to feel left out? [hint: keep reading]

Then the big event takes place on Thursday... a Seattle Silverlight 3 Firestarter event with Scott Guthrie, Tim heuer, Adam Kinney, Shawn Oster, Brad Abrams, and Karl Shifflett. I'd be hard-pressed to name a more august panel of Silverlight experts!

Not in Seattle? No problem! ... just go to the Registration Page, and sign yourself up for the online experience... yeah... the whole thing is going to be zooming across your monitor and through your headset!

I just looked and the registration says they're full... so even if you're in Seattle, no problem... sign up for the online experience and join all of us Silverlight junkies as we watch the presentations.

I'll be there... join me and

Silverlight Cream for September 14, 2009 -- #691

In this Issue: Allan Muller, Mark Monster, Kirupa, Shawn Wildermuth, Nikhil Kothari, John Papa, Expression Blend and Design Blog, Terence Tsang, Microsoft Expresson Product Site, and Matthias Shapiro.

Shoutout:

Randi Relander posted another new game on his SilverGames site: Silver Games Checkers: 0.0.1 Released

I mentioned Silverlight.XP from Fons Sonnemans and Loek van den Ouweland when it first went live, but I thought I'd mention it again since it's starting to get some traction: Silverlight.XP

This is a little late, because I had problems posting on Friday and was gone all weekend.

From SilverlightCream.com:
Silverlight: Detect Network Changes
In this outing from Allan Muller on Silverlight Tutorials, he's showing how to detect a network change.
OpenID User Control in Silverlight – Part 2 OpenID Integration
Mark Monster finally found time to do Part 2 of his OpenID/Silverlight article, and in this one he shows how to integrate this into your app.
Using Custom Visual States - Page 1
Kirupa has a great 4-page Epression Blend tutorial on putting custom states into a control.
Using Large Message Requests in Silverlight with WCF
Shawn Wildermuth hit the limit on message size in WCF with Silverlight, and dug down deep enough to find it, then shared that knowledge with all of us... don't skip it, it's not obvious!
Dialogs and ViewModel - Using Tasks as a Pattern
Nikhil Kothari has released a new version of Silverlight.FX, and he has a link in this post. The post concentrates on how to deal with Dialogs using the ViewModel pattern. This discussion is based on Silverlight.FX but all good concepts even if you aren't using it.
Data Performance and Fault Strategies in Silverlight 3
Check out John Papa's latest "Data Points" article in MSDN Magazine online... talking about performance, and exception handling... lots of info, like a chapter of a book!
Silverlight Control Styling Tips Articles
I was going to do this Expression Blend and Design Blog post as a shoutout because at first I thought it was links to articles already pushed, but this looks like 11 new posts... all sorts of goodness... except for the first one, I couldn't get that one to open :(
Silverlight 3 vs Flash: Digital Clock Demonstration
Terence Tsang's latest outing is a customizable Digital Clock ... I like the 'odometer' style display!
Slices overview
Crank up the Designer inside, Microsoft Expresson Product Site has a post up on Slices in Expression Design... if you want to do any complex image work, this sort of stuff is a must-know, and check out the other tips they have!
How To Animate a Changing Property in a Custom Control in Silverlight
Matthias Shapiro shares knowledge about animating a property in a Custom Control and includes some good external links.
