Silverlight Cream for May 27, 2009 - 2 -- #602

In this Issue: Brian Genisio, Davide Zordan(2), Paul Chapman, Tim Heuer, Shawn Wildermuth, Brad Abrams, Jordan Knight, and Unni.

From SilverlightCream.com:
Adventures in MVVM – A Testing Story
Brian Genisio submitted this just under the wire tonight... and it's a good discussion of how he got started in MVVM and testing Silverlight.
Silverlight 3 Beta and Binary message encoding
Davide Zordan has two posts up today. This one gives a quick example of binary message encoding on the client side, and includes the code.
Running Silverlight 3 apps on Windows Embedded Standard 2009 using Windows 7 RC and Virtual PC
Davide Zordan's second post lists out the steps to run Silverlight 3 on Windows embedded. I can't see myself running out and doing all that, but it sounds interesting :)
Windows Azure, TDS, WCF, Silverlight and a few problems on the way Part IV – The Silverlight Project
Paul Chapman said he had some issues with adding Silverlight into his Azure (et al) project, but from the sounds of the post, it seems straightforward :)
Silverlight DataForm helpers
Tim Heuer is blogging about the .NET RIA Services and specifically digs into the DataForm and shows us some great example code ... and not that much code either :)
DataForm Templates
Shawn Wildermuth also happens to be discussing the DataForm, only Shawn is looking at modifying the look and feel.
.NET RIA Services: Get your metadata from anywhere!
Brad Abrams blogged about one of the enhancements to the May preview of .NET RIA Services in that you can have your own metadata provider sitting wherever.
Debug SL3 OOB application startup
Jordan Knight had himself some fun debugging an OOB app, and details his solution. A possible solution offered up in a comment by Miguel Madero sounds like how we had to debug drivers, but if it gets the job done, it works!
The Blend 3 Asset Library
I just saw Unni's name the first time today, and here John Papa referenced Unni's post about the Blend 3 Asset Library. Check it out... maybe I can find stuff now :)

Silverlight Cream for May 27, 2009 -- #601

In this Issue: Erik Mork, Boyan Mihaylov, Tim Heuer, Jesse Liberty, Jonathan van de Veen, Al Pascual, and Jafar Husain.

Shoutout:

If you're interested in Azure and haven't taken the plunge yet (like me), Chris Hay is going to come to our rescue! He's announced My new Azure Book ... congratulations Chris!

I'm a little backed up from all the AZGroups festivities over the last couple days. Since I have a couple submittals, I decided to post them this morning and cut the total I have queued up in half. Hopefully I'll do the other half tonight and then get back on track.

From SilverlightCream.com:
Testing, Module Catalogs and Unity in Prism
Erik Mork is continuing with his development guides and Prism with the latest on testing. Good stuff as expected, Erik!
Creating Rich Data Forms in Silverlight 3 - Validation
Boyan Mihaylov has a great tutorial up on Validation in Silverlight 3 ... plus you can download the source!
Clearing some air in Silverlight, Blend and Visual Studio Beta land
Tim Heuer responds to the beta-rama going on right now, and tries to help us all through the maze... thanks Tim!
On The Bleeding Edge: Where All The Fun Is.
Jesse Liberty creeped me out with the 'bleeding edge' and the straight razor picture :) ... sorta goes along with the ScottGu presentation yesterday, but I digress! ... Jesse takes off on Tim's post (above), and guides us through the beta-rama from his standpoint... all good info and two viewpoints are definitely useful with the mix and match we have going.
Dependency properties and collections combined with XAML
Jonathan van de Veen posts about something he dealt with in his Enterprise Application series, but decided to post separately. He demonstrates from his code how a dependency property is getting accessed sooner than expected and causing trouble... very tricky to find!
Patterns: What is .net RIA Services?
Al Pascual has a post up that's a nice intro to .NET RIA Services... not a big post, but a good description of what you get and a download link.
Better WPF/Silverlight Development in F#: Attached Dependency Properties
There was just a discussion about F# at the AZGroups dinner Monday night, and here Jafar Husain is talking about using F# to write WPF and Silverlight... particularly in the area of Attached Properties using F# Extension Properties ... pretty cool.
