MIX09 Day 2 Bill Buxton Keynote

Technorati Tags:

Waiting for the keynote sitting with John Papa, Frank LaVigne, Pete Brown, Page Brooks, Bryant Likes… woohoo!

Bill Buxton on stage…

“It’s a Good Time for Design!”

Learn and apply what people have done before… iPod colors dang near identical to Kodak camera colors from 90 years ago!

Design should be like screaming down a mountain on a bike scared to death to the point of needing pampers.

Asking the right questions to get the right answers takes experience to know the questions.

Essence of experience is Timing..

Sketching a UI on sticky notes… push a button, go to the next note.

Arrows between the notes end up creating a state transition diagram.

“If you don’t have as much detail in the transitions as you do in the states, you’re going to get it wrong”

Adding transition diagrams to the bottom of the sketches improves the design process

How can we deliver on a thin client the same experience as the large desktops using the same code. THAT is the ultimate ROI

“Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” Seneca

MIX09 Day 2

Really Day 1 for me, since I wasn’t in any of the workshops, but I won’t confuse that :)

Up sort of late blogging, and woke up at 4:20 … couldn’t go back to sleep. I think maybe it was the ‘Light shining in my eyes :)

So much goodness to be announced today! If you thought last year was good, this year will blow you away… I’m just sayin’…

More than one person has written to me that they’ve found the new bits already online. I can’t blog about that here, but I’d say user beware… it may be new, it may be stale. I’d for sure check after the keynote and make sure I had the right stuff!

So this morning… breakfast meetup with Laurent, Tim, John Papa, and who knows who… going to be a big noisy table I’m sure.

Keynote at 9 … I don’t have a red shirt in my closet, but I do have a maroon TShirt, so it will have to suffice.

Then try to figure out where I want to be. Wish I could clone myself but I’m sure it’d be my luck I’d either get the idiot first try or the clone would be smarter than me and in either case that would just be teh suk as my buddy Brian would say :)

Looks like it’s gonna be Joe Stegman 11:30 to 12:45 “What’s new in SL3”

Then lunch

Then 2:15 to 3:30 Mike Harsh’s secret session with no name!

4:00 to 5:15 Jeff Paries on SL Animation… FTW --- need to get a seat early in THAT room!

I want to mention this year’s swag bag…

Whoever is in charge… I really like the waterbottle. I swapped the one I got at the Summit for this one. I’m not much of a straw person, so this is great and seals well.

The notebook…. instead of a big 8-1/2 by 11 ring binder (which was tres cool, btw), we have a small profile notebook..like the size of a paperback. Once you pull the filler out it snaps shut real nice and I like it a lot.

TShirt, book, etc…

Don’t forget to hit up Robby for some laptop bling, and Shawn Wildermuth is dragging some swag around to give away as well!

Just looked outside, it’s still dark… wow… and here I thought I was getting ready to run down to the Venetian :)

Stay tuned, stay watching Twitter… I’ll try to blog during the day, and most definitely

Stay in the ‘Light!
