Silverlight Cream for February 18, 2009 -- #521

In this issue: Tim Greenfield, Adam Kinney, Shawn Wildermuth, Alex Knight, and Joel Neubeck.

Shoutout:

The Swiss MSDN Team Blog has a bonus for all you wanna-be WPF'ers out there: Windows Presentation Foundation – Line of Business Hands-On-Lab Material

From SilverlightCream.com:
Speed up your app by compressing WCF service responses
Tim Greenfield shows how to setup IIS to get your WCF services compressed during transit. Just for drill, I checked my shared hosting and I don't have that sort of granular access, but if you do... go for it!
Prism v2 now supports WPF and Silverlight
Adam Kinney reports that v2 of Prism supports WPF and Silverlight. This is probably worth a look if you're building a big app, and most definitely if you're planning on a web and desktop solution... can we say "one code body"??
Prism Now Supports Silverlight 2!
Shawn Wildermuth also blogged about Prism, and hey... he's going to be training on it if you're in the area... check it out.
How to: Vector Graphics in Expression Design/ Adobe Illustrator
Alex Knight has a new blog, and if you haven't seen it, check out the graphics. And... he's showing how he creates that stuff in Expression Design... pretty cool stuff, now all I need is a drawing pad... oh and talent... forgot to ask for a helping of that for Christmas :) ... cool stuff, Alex!
Tip: Don’t be scared to use x:Name in XAML
Joel Neubeck has a good discussion about why you should name your nodes in your XAML. Check out the comments though because there may be a reason to be more selective.

Stay in the 'Light!
