Happy New Year from SilverlightCream!

Happy New Year everyone, from SilverlightCream!

I hadn't decided if I was going to do a retrospective post this year, I've done a couple, and if you haven't read them, they shouldn't be hard to find on my blog :)

Going through my blog list, however, I came across a year-ender by Chris Alcock of "The Morning Brew", and taking his lead, I thought I'd put out some metrics on SilverlightCream.

I have a list of 210 blogs I scan every day. This is an ever-growing list. As someone submits something to the site, or I find them some other way, I add them. Some of these are aggregations such as 4Guys or Silverlight.net, so the fan-out is greater than the actual number. If I don't list your work, please send me an email or submittal to SilverlightCream, because sometimes stuff happens and I miss something good!

From these blogs, I pick the ones I want to push into the database and blog about. Some I decide are updates or interesting to me, but maybe not Silverlight, so somewhere along the line this year, I've started doing "Shoutouts" to those. I've also trimmed down the introductory sentence.

I have a standard html template I drop everything into, and then make my personal remarks.

Silverlight Cream in 2008

I've posted 443 blog posts January 2 to December 31, counting this one. Of that number, 310 were 'Cream posts. That's not bad... just two posts shy of 6 per week!

I checked the database, and there were 2144 links added in 2008. That averages out to 7 good Silverlight posts per 'Cream post.

Me in 2008

2008 was a fun year for me as well:

January - Adam Kinney introduced me to Twitter and asked me to populate his SilverlightNews feed when I update SilverlightCream.

March - The month began with MIX08 and I got to go once again. This year I remembered to get gas in 'Vegas so I wasn't sweating bullets by the time I found a gas station south of the dam! The conference was great... tons of information, met lots of old friends and made lots of new ones.

After MIX08, Bill Reiss asked me to help out with a couple chapters in his book Hello! Silverlight2. I'd like to tell you we're done, but we're not yet... sorry Bill! But.. we WILL BE :)

April - The 2008 MVP Summit. I can't say enough about this. It's like a conference tailored for you and on steriods... wow! I made lots of new friends here, and had a great time, thank you Microsoft!

May - SilverlightCream's birthday and post #275 -- not bad for a first year... we'll see what year two brings in May 2009.

June - I won the podcast kit as the Community Credit winner in May. Haven't had a chance to use it yet, but it's very nice!

June also marked 1 million page hits at WynApse.com -- thanks everyone! As soon as I finish my work on 'the book', there will be more product on there, I promise!

July - re-awarded MVP -- woohoo... this time was without any nomination and on the merits of the previous year... again, thanks Microsoft!

October - started adding links to the MSDN Social bookmarking site and found myself among excellent company on the MSDN Silverlight site! If you check my bookmarks, I have just under 1250 pages marked there... another place to look for other people's work!

December - The end result of not much going on since July is me going to Montreal for DevTeach Montreal and giving 3 sessions on Silverlight. I wasn't real pleased with the evaluations, but I was trying to talk to beginners, and you can't please everyone :)

So now here we are on the cusp of 2008/2009. Everyone have a very safe New Year's and as long as there's something to blog about, I'll be linking to it!
