If you're not in Phoenix, or more particularly if you're not in North Phoenix, Action Auto Repair is probably out of your way, but if it isn't out of the way, you should definitely consider going there for all your work.
I've been using Tom and the guys there for at least 10 years, and some of the perks I receive is because of that history, but I think some of it is just the way Tom operates.
He always checks my vehicle over to make sure that not only is what I took it in there getting fixed, but the thing is road-worthy when I leave... not to find something else to charge me for, but because he cares about the work that leaves the shop. He doesn't try to add stuff on, he will tell me things like "watch those rear brakes... they've got about 6,000 miles left on them".
We don't live all that far away, so we always get a ride home when we drop off a vehicle.
I had a boss that told me "Oh I wouldn't take my car anywhere but the dealer". That night when I picked up my truck there was a car in the shop with a sticker on the window. I asked about it and Tom told me "oh, the dealers send cars over here when they get busy, or have something they can't deal with"... dealer-only indeed :)
I had trouble with battery bolts on my old pickup and he left some laying on a ledge outside the door for me so I could get them on the way home.
Just this morning I stopped on the way to work with a postive battery connector that was all franged up and just sitting on the terminal... there was no longer any way to tighten (or loosen) the connector. I asked him if he could get me on the way to work and showed it to him. I had barely started playing sudoku on my palm pilot when he came in and said "it's done, running, and pointing toward work" ... and refused money!
Stack either of those up against ANY place you've ever been!
I paid plenty a week ago for brakes all around on my F250 Super Duty, but still... anywhere else, I'd have had to pay for that battery terminal work today. And that's not to say you'll get that sort of consideration if you just drive in and he doesn't know you, but you never know... he's that kind of a guy...
Definitely worth a try!
