Silverlight 2 Beta 2 is Released!
This is almost an afterthought since people have been blogging it for the last hour. My take is that it's not over until Scott Gu posts :) ... well, that time has arrived, and Silverlight 2 Beta 2 has arrived as well, along with VS2008 and Expression Blend support is available from the link above. Scott Guthrie
has a blog post about it, and Shawn Wildermuth
has 3 really nice posts up (so far)... he's been patiently waiting for about 3 days :) I'm sure there are many others waiting anxiously to push the send button on B2 code, so this weekend should be a wealth of resources to us all!
I'd like to point out some of the fine print, in case you don't read it in your hurry to install and run
B2 has a Go-Live license, and "Go Live licensees are reminded that as part of the license amendment you signed, there is a commitment to upgrade or unpublish a Beta 1 site within seven days of the public Beta 2 release."
B2 will have a Click-through Go-Live license that will allow you to place SL2B2 code on your production site.
We've already seen a lot of this demo'd and talked about, but there's more complex controls shipped with B2 such as DatePicker and TabPanel. Also, the core controls are part of the core download, so do not have to be additionally deployed, as promised.
Scott's post covers Control Template Editing Support in Blend 2.5 June Preview ... very cool tutorial and very cool suff. He also goes over the Visual State Manager which I've aggregated a few blog posts about already. Consider Scott's tutorial to be "The One", and use the others as supplemental :)
There are additions to the controls we've come to know plus things like Input control in full-screen (finally!) plus improvements/enhancements to Media, Network, and Data.
Lots of fun stuff, and goodness to play with.
Stay in the 'Light!
