I pretty much took a Mental Health Day today with my last University of Phoenix class finishing last night. This is the first Tuesday since Jan 8 that I haven't had students, although I still have final week feedback and grades to do.
I spent a little time on my site last night getting the Marquee code I had posted a while back working on my MasterPage. I would have stuck the dismount on it except I forgot a newbie issue: if you're going to have x:Name in the xaml you're trying to createFromXaml, you need to define the namespace for it in the string. Once I got past that, everything seemed to work.
If you checkout WynApse.com now, I've inserted a canvas in my MasterPage just inside my Content area. This canvas is the Marquee and gets it's display data from the database via asmx Web Service calls... two of them actually: one for inserting the xaml and the other for inserting the hyperlink.
The data stored is:
- Text to scroll
- Color of text to scroll
- Font Family
- Background color
- Width of the text
- Hyperlink
From my Admin page, I can change any of those parameters and get different scroll text, or visual effect without having to get into the site code.
For about a year I've had the capability of putting up a banner with hyperlink, but I'm going to try this for a while and see how annoying it gets :)
Pretty much I'll be announcing things coming up for me, but are things others may be interested in such as MIX, User Group meetings, Local MS events, etc.
If you notice any problems, let me know!
Legacy Code Changes
I have a section on my site called "Legacy Code" where I have a couple of old (late 1990) C++ articles that I wrote for an online journal back when the subjects were fresh. Somewhere along the line, the zip files for the code downloads apparently got lost, and one reader was trying to build the code from what I was showing on the pages which was not complete.
I've restored the zip files to the site so anyone interested in those can view them in their wonderfulness... and as with anything else on the stie, questions or comments are always welcome.Â
