Friday fun with WorldMaps

Shortly after I opened SilverlightCream.com, Andrew Duthie suggested I use WorldMaps for my counter/map. I looked at it and liked it a lot. I had entered my Latitude/Longitude for 'future' enhancements. In a post by Andrew last week, he showed what one of the future enhancements is ... a mashup between VirtualEarth and the existing WorldMaps displays. If you click on my map image in the lower left sidebar of WynApse.com, you'll get to this page. This all by itself is very cool, and I like how I can...

Product Review: Card Reader v 1.07 for Palm OS by Mobile Stream

I finally invested in some ear buds I liked (KOSS KEB/24b) and started listening to DotNetRocks on my Palm Pilot. If you have a Palm device, you know the process: Download from the site, drag the file from your HD over to the Palm loader tool to put it on your card, then sync the Palm. So the file has to be handled 3 times, and one of the three is very slow -- the sync. Card Reader by Mobile Stream resolves that problem. I bought it this morning from PalmGear.com on a 20% off sale for $9.56, installed...

Silverlight 1.0 OutlookBar Control -- Updated

Silverlight 1.0 OutlookBar Control Updated Not too long after I posted mySilverlight 1.0 OutlookBar Control, an alert reader, Matt Casto, not only found a bug, but identified the circumstance. It hardly gets better than that! I've made changes to avoid that issue and updated the code and xaml, and also wrote up the change in the article itself. The code to download remained the same, however, because that is what I distributed after Code Camp, and other than the change noted in the article, is still...

Silverlight 1.0 Outlook Bar Control

Silverlight 1.0 OutlookBar Control I finally got an article up for my Desert Code Camp III presentation. I didn't have a slide deck, and for the presentation, I talked through the 5 subfolders of data in the download. The presentation culminated in the control demonstrated above. The code is name-agnostic so it can be easily extended. I only have one menu item in each menu, but that is very easily extended, and could be done so in a downloader object. If you use this let me know, I'd like to see...

Silverlight Cream for September 16, 2007 -- Silverlight Spy -- with corrected English :(

This warrants its own cream post without looking at anything else: Koen of FirstFloor Software hit a home-run with this one: Silverlight Spy -- drop in an URL to your favorite page with Silverlight on it, the page is displayed, and the xaml exploded... how cool is that? From SilverlightCream.com: SilverlightSpy Koen's SilverlightSpy opens up the capability of xaml inspection. I've ran it on files on my hard disk, I've ran it on articles with canvases embedded on sub-pages on my web site and it found...

My Desert Code Camp III Basic Silverlight Presentation was today

The first day of Desert Code Camp III was today, and as with the other two Code Camps we've had, in my opinion, it was a rousing success! Great presenters giving great presentation. Thanks to Lorin and Scott, and all the volunteers and presenters! There were not many empty seats in the auditorium for my Basic Silverlight presentation, and somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 admitted to never having run Silverlight, so the material was on the mark for them. I'm jammed on time right now, so I don't have...

3 Days to Desert Code Camp III & Search Updated on SilverlightCream.com

3 days to Desert Code Camp III!! Come on down and watch me put on the intro to Silverlight that's not completely written yet! Better yet, join me in watching Dan Wahlin do the Advanced Silverlight presentation! With 97 sessions running, I'm sure there's something everyone is interested in, and many big-name presenters. Using a term I first heard from Scott Cate, I ended up eating my own dogfood yesterday while trying to find something on SilverlightCream.com. Someone had submitted a link to me and...

ShortText.com and NerdTests.com -- link repaired

As a test of ShortText.com, I put the image link from the results of taking the test at NerdTests.com into a ShortText.com body. I'll paste it here as well: I think ShortText.com is clever. Their list of uses is pretty complete... I certainly can't think of more. Thanks to Andrew Duthie for pointing this out, and Shawn Wildermuth for the Nerd Test :)...

Silverlight Cream for September 7, 2007

Not sure what's going on, but since 1.0 was released, everyone is very quiet. I know Jeff Paries has a couple cool things coming (oh.. shh, I'm not allowed to give out the URLS), but I have found a couple things: Joshua at VisitMIX answers some good foundational questions about Silverlight, and a new blog opened that looks like its going to be Silverlight "error:operator" has a couple Silverlight articles, the latest on scrollbars. Desert Code Camp III - September 15/16, 2007

If you're going to be anywhere near Phoenix on the weekend of September 15 & 16th, at least take a look at what's being offered at Desert Code Camp III. Over two days there are currently 97 sessions being offered. I'm doing an Introduction to Silverlight and Dan Wahlin is taking it from there into animation, data display, and AJAX integration. When I present, I like to show something new that I haven't done before, and this time is no exception. With about 9 months of WPF/E and Silverlight having...

Quarter of a Million Posts and switching to WorldMaps.aspx

It was May 22, 2007 that I hit 100,000 page hits at WynApse.com I've now passed 250,000! The majority of the page hits have been since January/February of 2007 when I started chasing Silverlight, and everyone else was looking for it. I had estimated that I'd hit a quarter million the end of September, and even without posting new material in a while, I hit it early! SilverlightCream.com has taken some time away from new material, and a magazine article has been taking some time as well, and still...
