Silverlight 1.0 Beta 1 to RC 1 Conversion Issues

Thankfully I didn't have a lot of issues, as I reported very early this morning. I did have a few pages that had problems that I did not want to deal with at 1:30 am, and after ratting out the changes necessary, I wrote up a page on it.

I only have one other page that is manifesting a user experience different from what it did prior to RC 1, and I haven't checked into that yet. I thought these were enough fun to report :)

You can find the write-up on my site at this link.

Conversion to Silverlight 1.0 RC 1

Well, I was feeling pretty pleased with myself that the only 'Breaking Change' I had to deal with was Visibility "Collapsed". Of course I delayed making that change and was doing it early this morning to beat the release.

Since I can't get to much from the office, I downloaded the control and things seemed to work fine, so I thought WooHoo... I dodged THAT bullet.

But... that was NOT the case.

Late this evening, I did the same magic here on my development machine, and then also downloaded the SDK so I could put up the RC1 js file on my site. That's when NOTHING worked... huh?

It turned out to be a simple change on every page: Sys.Silverlight.createObjectEx became Silverlight.createObjectEx. This was not a huge deal except I have 34 canvases on the site spread across my Master Page, 25 Articles and 9 Tutorials.

Fortunately when I did the Beta 1 changes after MIX, I streamlined the process a bit, so it only took a couple hours to modify and check all of that.

So far, I only found 2 other problems in my pages. I still had one hold-out "javascript:" prefix on a function, and a color fill was missing the leading "#". Who knows what that has been doing up until now.

I noticed when checking that the 3rd canvas of the Drag and Drop page works differently, so I'll have to revisit that, and the Video Reflection page is pooting. Seems weird.. the Reflection Builder works and the page with the video works, so why doesn't the video reflection? Must have something to do with the translation or animation code. I think I'll leave that for the morning ... oh... it IS 'the morning' ... ok for later after I sleep and mow then!
