Amazing Site and Young Man - Omar Al Zabir

All I can say is it's a good thing I'm as old as I am, and as firmly involved in my field. If I were the age of Omar Al Zabir, or worse, work anywhere around him, I might pack it in and see about selling used cars or something.

I was minding myself reading my 'morning paper' (my blog roll) this morning and found Omar's article about a Google IG-like web site in AJAX & LINQ. My mouth started to go dry as I was looking at what he'd done, then got to the bottom and found out more information about him... in case you don't recognize the name, Omar is the co-author and CTO of PageFlakes, but then there is his web site.

Omar's web site cannot be described, it MUST be experienced.

2 more Excedrine just because...

Did anyone notice that this guy was born in 1982 and he was working as a developer by 1993. I hate to say it, he is either full of bull or he really has the skills.

Biography
Date of Birth: Sep 5, 1982
Nationality: Bangladeshi by born
Sex: Male
Religion: Islam

Then see his resume stating that he was 1993-1997 SAfeworks Ltd. Dhaka, Bangladesh
Software Developer

Now I am not debunking his skills but come on, what companies hire 11 year old kids to program for them.

Something just looks wrong about that.

I personally know Omar and although it's hard to believe, he was actually developing from the age of 11. SAfeworks Ltd was full of exciting work and there were a number of genius talents who became a part of it. And to add more spice, these kids were working on localized applications and systems at that time (I was also a kid at that time, but alas i was not that prodigy).

omar really had to hide his age in the first jobs he did, as he would classify as a child worker. he is just a genious, nothing more, nothing less.
he started working as head of ideas/chief architect for somewhere in... in 2005 and quickly devised amazing architecture for mobile commerce payment systems and an advanced central profile for our multiple services. within six months of building pageflakes with some friends, they won the web 2.0 award for best startpage in 2006.

I worked closely with Omar in 2007 & 2008 (he was CTO and I was VP Engineering) and assure you that he really is a super-star. He has been the technical core of several startups, has a book "Building a Web 2.0 Portal with ASP.NET 3.5" published by O'Reilly and he knows .NET and AJAX cold. And he is a great guy who will do whatever it takes to get the job done. I'd work with him again for sure.
