Phoenix NON Transit System

1 hour to drive 27 miles on one of the newest roads in the Phoenix metro area (101 outer loop) is unacceptable.

The first 5 miles took 20 minutes this morning because of heavy construction vehicles spread across all 3 lanes. Finally after 40 minutes I got to about the half-way mark and traffic began moving.

Then there was a wreck, firetruck and all 2 miles ahead.

I avoided driving past it at 1 mile an hour by getting off at Shea, making a U-turn and getting back on. Going through the next curve, the old guy on the left of me in a brand-new Cadillac took that opportunity to fish under the right front seat looking for his sunglasses. I stood on the brakes and the horn at the same time, and I suppose he had Barbra Streisand turned up too loud or something because he kept his course of taking up two lanes going through a curve at 50 mph while not looking where he was going... a pretty good trick actually.

He finally came up for air, and while he was swerving off the road on the left, I got around him figuring he was going to cause a wreck and the best place would be behind me. Next time I looked I had a little black car pasted on the rear bumper of my truck. I didn't think a lot about it at the time.

A few miles later traffic cleared up a bit, and the guy in the little black car came flying around me on the right, laying on the horn. The only thing I can figure is he had a guilty conscience about something back when I was trying to avoid the indignity of getting killed by someone wearing wrap-around sunglasses, and he was clueless enough to not see what was going on, yet took the horn in a bad way.

Scary, and way too much time and energy out of my life.

I agree, this is what happens just about every morning. I usually leave by 7pm and there is nothing but Commercial trucks on the road, this morning I left at 6am and trafic was still busy but not as many commercial vehicles. That is odd since I thought construction workers and truckers try to get out as early as possible. Without a carpool lane we are doomed! At first i thought: Why spend all this money on speeding cameras when it could be spent on a carpool lane? But now since I have heard how much $$ are coming in to the city from people getting tickets, I would like to see that $$ go to building a carpool lane. We deserve at least that much!!
