My Pool pump was shooting water back toward the motor, so I figured a seal of some sort was failing. I dropped by my local Paddock Pool shop on Saturday (1/2 mile from the house) and was told not only do they have the parts, but they can do the work and I just pay for the parts... perfect!
20 minutes later I had the pump/motor on their counter. I should have left at that point, but I hung around and saw them trying to (1) get the motor and pump separated and then (2) get the impeller off the motor shaft using the set of tools you buy your daughter when she leaves for college and you want her to be able to tighten screws on things, actually, not THAT good.
The only flat-blade screwdriver they had was part of one of those sets with the reversible shaft and two phillips/two flat blades that pull out and reverse.
Of course they couldn't fix it, but said the guys that came in at 10 on Sunday could. Against my better judgement, I left it.
Sunday noon I called and found out "I can't get it off".
So I went over and picked up all the pieces without being sarcastic, amazingly enough, and drove straight down to B&L Pool Supply also called All Seasons I think (about 6 miles from the house). The guy took it in the back, pulled the impeller, replaced the seals and I was out the door. Parts plus $7.50 labor ... and he had REAL TOOLS!
I'll let Paddock test my water, but they aren't touching equipment again. I'm lucky the business end of that motor shaft or the impeller wasn't damaged with the juvenile approach to bench work!
