Now I did a post on some old bases I'd worked at in the past back in July last year at http://geekswithblogs.net/wallabyfan/archive/2005/07/04/45394.aspx
So get over to Google Earth for a copy of the new Beta 4 at http://earth.google.com/earth4.html and check out the new User Interface, but more especially have a look at the new resolution!!
The old base at Khamis in Saudi Arabia is coming through in fantastic detail - go to N18 18 E42 48 and then look a little to the right and up a tad and you'll find a lone F15 sitting on the Apron.
The Airbase at Dhahran (N26 16 13, E50 08 58) is very clear and visible, and it is very easy to see the old coumpound I used to live at, and the swimming pool (N26 11 57, E50 11 24) and I can see their is building work that will probably preclude the old pond we used for windsurfing just to the west.
Of course the old Israeli base at N31 05 E34 08 that we used to use for the Peace Keeping mission between Israel and Egypt is still no better on resolution, but I think it is so far out of the way it is to be expected?
In some ways this is like having your very own personal SR71 to go and get high quality of shots of pretty much whatever you want?
