The opinions expressed within are my own and should not be attributed to any other Individual, Company or the one I work for. I just happen to be a classic techie who is passionate about getting things to work as they should do (and are sometimes advertised and marketed as being able to?) and when I can I drop notes here to help others falling in to the same traps that I have fallen in to. If this has helped then please pass it on - if you feel that I have commented in error or disagree then please feel free to discuss with me either publically or privately? Cheers, Dave

Brian Madden has been a bit quiet for a while, but has now bounced back with a vengence
If you are interested in Citrix at all, you should really make Brian Madden's site one of your regularly visited sites What if Citrix dropped ICA and just went with RDP?September 28, 2005Editorial >> I've been thinking a lot about Longhorn Terminal Services and the future of Citrix recently, and I found myself wondering what would happen if Citrix stopped working on ICA and just went with RDP. Web chat about Orange SPV M5000 Pocket PC phone and imminent release mid October?
Well thanks to MSMobiles there are now more details regarding the HTC Universal / Orange M5000. I personally will be waiting to go and pick one up in the store to see exactly how big the Form Factor feels when it's in the palm of your hand. As much as I do like the look of this device and all it promises, you can't underestimate the power of the "feel" of the device, this is the real reason for the popularity of devices like the iPod and also why I still stick to my Canon Ixus 40 Camera not only ......

Windows Mobile 5.0 marks the convergence of SmartPhone and PocketPC versions?
While catching up on some of the new details that have come out while I've been away I came across this article about how Windows Mobile is clearly marking the convergence of the SmartPhone and PocketPC versions? What is also interesting to note that it is actually possible to run the current Skype PocketPC Client on a Windows Mobile 5.0 powered SmartPhone, even though it needs accessing via the PC Controller to get past part of the UI. It would appear from these findings that Skype shouldn't have ......

Egypt is a great spot for a holiday
Completely off topic in that it has nothing to do with technology, but...... Do not get put off by the temperatures - it is so dry that 38C in Luxor is comparable to 30C in London Very Cheap - you can eat superbly in the 5 Star Hotels, having a 3 course dinner for less that £15 The food in the 5 star hotels is great - in some cases every bit as good as the top London Restraunts We spent 4 days crusing on the "Nile Beauty" (5 Star Boat) - Fantastic!! But back on topic...... while crusing the ......

Nokia opens up mobile email - competing with Exchange SP2 Blackberry
So although I have been away on a rather nice two week break in Egypt, it's nice to see that Nokia has released the details on their "spoiler"......... Nokia Business Centre, as the new email system is to be known, seeks to bridge the gap between the world's 650 million corporate email accounts and the elite of about 10 million who have mobile access to their business email in-boxes. The Finnish group, long expected to push into a market that brought success to RIM's BlackBerry devices, said it wanted ......

Unable to Print from Presentation Server 4.0 when Connecting via ICA 9.0 Client - Anti-Virus on Citrix/Terminal Servers?
Now the reason I post this is that sometime back I was looking in to some issues at another Client's site and came across issues that were not necessarily the cause of the Symptom but they were rather strange. The resolution was to rollback McAfee server client to an earlier revision OR await the arrival of a patch from McAfee....... It would still appear to be the case? And just in case you thought you'd rip that out and try something else, do yourself a favour and don't use Sophos? On a large greefield ......

"Blackberry Killer" Exchange SP2 and Mobile 5 now might have competition from Nokia?
Rumours are appearing about the possible resurfacing of Nokia having another tilt at the Mobile Office Connectivity side of things. Does anyone recall a rather unfortunately named product called NOBS? (Nokia One Business Something?) Sounds to me like now that they have licensed ActiveSync they’ve decided they want to get on the Blackberry Bandwagon as well? Essentially this would appear to continue on from the older Nokia offerings so it’s rumoured to be referred to Version 4.0 even though ......

Mac OS X Tiger on VMWare
Update:One of my colleagues has got it working, and I have also now manged to confirm just this morning that it is possible to see Mac OS X running on a VMWare Workstation sitting on a Server 2003 Host. I haven't really had time to play with it as I'm a bit rushed leading up to a 2 week holiday, so things will be a bit quiet this month. So it is out there...... just keep looking. The one that I found worked "straight out of the box" was a highly compressed 1.29Gb *.tar.bz file. I say highly compressed ......

Did you want an SSL-VPN for home use? Think it might cost too much? Think Again!
Now how does this sound? I've only just been introduced to this today but it certainly makes me wonder how easy it is? So far looking through the documentation on this it's pretty slick, when I couldn't find Java 1.5 (a prerequisite...) it offered to go and download it for me AND it is covered by the GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE.Certainly compelling enough to try? ;-)) Why not, it's the right price?UPDATE: This is so easy....... seriously simplifies SSL VPN - honestly, so long as you can read their ......

More Bad News For Lotus Notes?
I picked this up originally from an article in the MS Exchange BlogNow this is interesting news, the last I heard some 4 – 6 months ago was that things appeared to be equally split between Notes and Exchange at approx. 120 Million users a piece. The article doesn’t appear to mention actual figures, just percentages, but as Gartner and IDC both agree it does tend to lend weight to each report?I believe we have yet to see a real impact on Exchange’s growth due to the take up of Mobile ......

Want to extend Group Policy to Mobile Devices? – Hell Yeah!!!! - but it might not be all that it seems?
But all may not be as it seems? Without investigating it in detail, it would appear from the screenshots that the method it uses to encompass this is to provide a GUI that allows you to create Executables at various points within the OU Structure based on a resultant policy and then “push” it down to the device so that is enforced even when not connected.More at: http://www.fullarmor.com/pr... ......

Security for Mobile devices
I found this little Gem on Jason’s Blog last night. If you are at all concerned about how to ensure some degree of Security on mobile devices within your organisation you should really review this – sorry, late me restate that – you must review this, it’s essential reading. Although the headline is for CESG, Jason quickly points out that:“CESG is the Information Assurance (IA) arm of GCHQ and are the UK Government’s National Technical Authority for Information ......

Orange SPV C600 smartphone
Well it would appear that it is going to be very difficult picking your next Windows Mobile device as we come up to Xmas, on top of the Universal we now have news of some of the expected specs for the C600, and whatever any other device offers it's the C500 form factor that has in my opinion set the benchmark for Windows Mobile handsets. high resolution display: 240x320 pixels compared to 176x220 in C500 1.3 megapixel camera compared to 0.3 megapixel in C500 quad-band compared to tri-band in C500 ......

Coming releases at Citrix iForum - Las Vegas 9-12 Oct. - Access Gateway 4.2 and WISP (Web Interface - Share Point intergration)
I have had it confirmed from within Citrix that the latest release version 4.2 for the Access Gateway and Access Gateway Enterprise will be anounced and available for download through MyCitrix.Com a week later. The same goes for the WISP Project, it has seen a little news courtesy of BrianMadden's Site, but essentially this will be formally unveiled at Las Vegas iForum. To a certain extant this will also bring to a close Citrix's pursuit of the "Portal" space and I am assuming it will now be taking ......

Changes at HTC + HTC announces latest financial results + Mobile 5 Release date?
Well it's hardly a suprise to those of us that follow the steady stream of fantastic little devices that are being released at an almost unbelieveable rate. Have a browse through the news section at MSMobiles and you'll see all manner of release dates and shipping dates that would appear to be coming well ahead of the official release date of Windows Mobile 5.It would be guessing that the rest of Europe is pretty much the same as here in UK in that not many people are putting their hands in their ......
