Raw and sometimes unedited notes based on my experiences with VMware, Thin Clients, Linux etc.
Just thinking out loud here......
If it will be possible to leverage up Exchange Infrastructure to provide Blackberry like functionality, where does that leave Lotus Notes Users? How far away is there any other improvement that will allow them to get this working? or will this always be a situation where it's left to 3rd party resources?
Went to a customer’s the other day for what should have been a simple health check, and it turns out that their 25 odd Citrix Server Farm has recently been experiencing a problem whereby the Production Servers will routinely exhibit a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) and spontaneously reboot. As the servers were already set up to save a Mini Dump file and then reboot, this has somewhat kept the issue “liveable” with, but for some reason this wasn’t on their most important list ......
Altiris: Using Altiris/HP RDP the concept s to automate the build process and script each process so that it is: Automatic, as much as possible Modularised, in that each separate step is done independently What this enables is that you can switch Hardware and you would only need to change the “drivers” section of script, everything else should be able to remain as it is VMWare: Can be run as a host on Windows Server or Linux O/S, or in the case of ESX Server be run on “bare metal”. ......
If you are interested in *trying* <cough> Mobile 5 Beta then you might want to check some of the P2P Sharing locations/Files? Although I haven't found one, it would appear that some of the content on the MoDaCo forums are discussing how to get around the IMEI lock that is on the Mobile 5 Beta ROM's. After a bit of a troll through some threads it would appear that there might be a C500 and XDa compatible ROM's around somewhere? I have not yet had the time to thoroughly research this, but the ......
Just as when the information first came out that it *might* be possible to get hold of an upgrade ROM for the MPx 200 to bring it up to WM 2003 SE to enable the .Net functionality, so it comes around again. As you’d expect with very few of the Mobile 5.0 compatible devices actually having been built, you might want to ask the question “What is MS using to test Exchange SP2 functionality with if they don’t have any new fancy gadgets?” But I can say I have seen something that ......
Pretty provocative statement? What do I mean by this? Any of this sound vaguely familiar? This then possibly progress's at some point (when the next yearly(?) review of the DR Plan comes around) to add a bit more hardware and possibly some dedicated Leased line of some kind to enable comms? Although this is still somewhat half-hearted, when questioned about why it takes so long to test someone will usually point out that the reason it took so long is that: A - It wasn't done properly by *the other ......
I did hear a totaly unsubstantiated rumour that MS have/had(?) considered calling this release Exchange 2006? And I guess when you consider that this is going to be release SP2 and the is nearly 3 years old, the MS Marketing machine must be itching to give it a new up-to-date name. Then the people looking after the revenue stream must also be thinking that would be a good idea as well. Let's just hope they hold off from that, as it would really have an effect on the speed of deployment on this. It'll ......
I am looking in to the possibility of getting a "Blackberry Killer" Solution together combining the power of Exchange 2003 SP1(SP2) - the Always-Up-To-Date (AUTD) feature - and the new iPaq HW6500 from HP. Although I am by definition a Citrix Consultant at Ultima, I have always been interested in SmartPhones and the Pocket PC for some while. Now that I have Tom Tom Mobile 5 working on my C500, I figure there's not much that it can't do, so let's push the boundaries right out there.Main Crux of this ......
Just thought I would let you know of a little problem that one of our chaps came across today regarding the New PS4.0 STA. As you may know, the new STA (required for Citrix Secure Gateway) is built into Presentation Server 4.0 during the installation, this means that when the server is cloned the STA ID is also copied. This results in that only one server can be added to CSG. The file that holds the STA ID, is CtxSta.config. Modifying the ID and restarting the XML Service (or rebooting) allows the ......
Sorry for the delay - moving blogs etc. Now bear with me on some of this as it's almost RAW note taking - and I'm still waiting on the PowerPoint to confirm some of this but I have to say that I'm still getting goosebumps on my arms when thinking about how this came across, it felt like **My Personal Call to Arms** Notes: People recruited to the industry 20 – 25 years ago were/are risk averse We now have different challenges Skills are now not as important, now it’s Attitude and Personality, ......
Today I have sat in most of the sessions for targeted for IT Directors - predominately chaired by Rene Carayol - If you ever hear anyone speak about IT Leadership - this is the chap to listen to - fantastic and inspiring. More later ......
Saw an email this morning that give us a heads up that Doug Brown from DABCC.com was doing a small presentation this afternoon prior to the Registration, so we thought we'd attend - this is my raw notes:DABCCAmex International Hotel - 16:30 6/6/2005Network Troubleshooting and Premitech's Performance Guard 4.0Slow Network/Performance - Question: Is perception reality? To the end user Perception *IS* Reality, deal with it !! Don't forget that ALL issues on the Desktop are magnafied by an order of magnitude ......
I will admit I have never owned - or wanted - a Games Console, until I spotted the specs on the new Xbox 360. I was even contemplating creating a custom shuttle PC or even one of the smaller S620 PC's to do Streaming of media to the TV/Entertainment System from the Server. But with an expected date of October at approx. £170 with an included **user upgradeable** 20Gb Hard Disk - why would I bother..... ;-)I've also included a link on the left to my Photo Album. How my Photo Album is setup? I ......
I think this once used to be a phrase that was very popular, especially back around the times of last 2 world wars - what has this got to do with IT?Good question - when I first started getting my hands on Servers they were typically Novell Netware 3.11 or 3.12's and when you started trying to troubleshoot a "Slow Performance" issue, or even worse, an "Abend" (the equivalent of a BSOD!) the very first thnig you'd do is disable or remove the Anti-Virus. (Back in those days, they just weren't that ......

I noticed at work yesterday that Gareth has also picked up a C500 from Orange as well as Chris and Michael, so as I am now on my second SmartPhone ( I did have an Motorola MPx200 before the C500) I thought I'd share some tips?I have now got Tom Tom Mobile 5 working with a Bluetooth connected GPS and I have to say this is real sweet - I've always thought the PDA's are just a little big for what I wanted, but I was keen to try the GPS Navigation side of things. Position on the road - even at 70 - 80 ......
