What is this event?
New Horizons of MN is excited to bring you a new opportunity to educate, inform and build connections in our community. The New Horizons of MN Education and Job Fair 2008 will provide up-to-date information, education, networking opportunities, career coaching and resources on the latest developments in business trends, technologies, job searching and interviews.
The one-day event includes:
•Keynote Address
•42 Educational Sessions (50 minutes each session)
•Networking time with key companies in the Twin Cities
•Job Interviews with key companies in the Twin Cities
•Exhibit Hall
To make this a successful event within this community, we are currently taking applications for speaking positions for this conference. Submitting an application for a speaking slot is not a guarantee that your topic will be chosen, but all applications will be considered. A panel of judges will make the final selections and build the conference schedule accordingly. This event will be widely promoted in our classes, through the work force centers, and in print and online media.
Tracks for this conference include:
•The Interview – Topics could include but are not limited to: Effective Communication, Top Interview Questions, Time Management, Business Writing, What to include in a winning resume
•Computer Basics – Topics could include but are not limited to: Intro to the Web, Job Searching Online, Email Etiquette, Windows Basics, What to look for when buying a PC, Email Basics
•Trends in the Job Market – Topics could include but are not limited to: Skills All Employers Seek, Salary Surveys, High Demand Jobs in the Twin Cities
•Technology Tools – Topics could include but are not limited to: MS Office (what is included and why I should know about it), Adobe Creative Suite (what is included and why I should know it), Email Tools (both online accounts and programs such as Outlook), MS Office Tips and Tricks, Budgeting using Excel, Creating your Resume in MS Word, Templates available on Office Online
•Design/Media – Topics could include but are not limited to: Game Development Careers, Graphic Design Careers, Media Design Careers, Editing images in Photoshop Elements, What does it take to get into the design and media field
•Project Management / Business Analysis – Topics could include but are not limited to: Leadership Skills, Project Management Careers, Business Analysis Careers, The Difference Between PM and BA, Requirements Gathering, PM Terms, BA Terms, Negotiating to Win
•IT – What you should know and why – Topics could include but are not limited to: What it takes to be in the field, What do I need to know to be a developer, What do I need to know to be a systems administrator, What IT products should I be familiar with, Why Open Source
As the new, premier Business/Recruiting event for Minnesota’s businesses, New Horizons of Minnesota’s goal is to draw in 500-600 attendees.
