HEy thanx verrry much. It appears that this has fixed some of my pcs problems. Just want to let you know that this kind of service for people not as computer knowledgable is so invaluable it eliminates alot of the stress caused by these ever so complicated devices we rely on soooo much nowadays... maybe one day we'll go back to the forrests and start living within our natural states (kiddn around) THANX AGAIN!

My original issue was that XP Pro SP2 would take 10 minutes to boot. I spent six hours on the phone w/ a MS technician. We determined that the Shell Hardware Detection service was slowing down the system. It's currently disabled, and the machine loads fine. Now, I am getting the svchost.exe error upon bootup, and I have no success accessing the windows update page. It hangs for half hour. I reinstalled the necessary drivers, but that does not seem to have helped. The guy at microsoft gave me this link: http://autofix30.notlong.com; it's an autofix mechanism but i've not been able to access it. Any ideas would be welcomed.

Been around and around with multiple help centers and IT guys. No one could help, finally bought some software that was suppose to fix the problem, went round and round with their customer support, still no luck. Tried this and it worked, I had no idea it was so easy. Thank you.

The last solution to this problem I've found, to keep automatic update on.
1- Turn off Automatic update
2- Go to c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution\download
3- Delete all files and folders
4- Turn on Automatic update
5- Connect to internet to get the updates again
6- Install all downloaded updates

Hi I am getting the following message:

When System Boots up:

Svchost.exe – Application Error
The instruction at “0x10002007” referenced memory at “ 0x000c7000”. The memory could not be “read”
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click CANCEL to debug the program

When I click OK or Cancel I get the NT Authority\System message DCOM Server Failure Shutdown in 60 seconds comes up

So I do shutdown –a to stop it.

Also another similar Svchost.exe – Application Error message comes up with different memory reference
“0X6f6122f” referenced memory at “0x000035d0”.
And I click OK for that and then system is running.

DSL Internet works but can not get the Workgroup to work.

I did the last kwon config and that didn’t stop it. I have not installed anything new and I do not have system restore turned on.

The last thing I remember doing was Installing Windows Media 11 and IE 7 then I uninstalled both of them.

Any solution would help as I do not want to reinstall XP. Thanks.

Thank you and everyone else who has had input into this unbelievly annoying problem of svchost. I tried a few solutions that were given, but had no effect on the error. However I had a different hex address, specifically the one Abhinov indicates in his solution. I tried it, and it worked. I have spent about 6 hrs in books and other web pages trying to get rid of this error that even has the nerve to beep at me when it apprears on start-up, as if it was just mocking me! Now that I'm identifying svchost as a sentient life form, it's time to go to sleep and get this thing out of my life. I wonder why I have the feeling I haven't seen the last of svchost.exe application error etc. etc.?

Thanks again for your solution and thank you everyone else for yours with the different memory location. If (?) this comes up again, I will look at the location and equate a solution. If I come up with another solution I will post it here. The help is so appreaciated.

I got The isntruction "0X00dd499b" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "written". Click on Ok to terminate the program (and somehow it shuts my computer after a minute)
Click on CANCEL to debug the program (If I close the debugger; it shuts my computer after a minute)

Internet connection stops after hitting OK or close to this message, to a have a new connection I have to reboot.

pls this is the error message i get.
svchost.exe application error
the instruction at 0x73400001 referenced memory referenced at 0x73400001. the required data was not placed into memory because of an I/O error status of 0x000009c.

Hey guys...i got the same problem....i started using the solution but after the reboot step i get to "Go back to start menu and in all programs go to "windows update" you have to be connected to the internet."
I go to start menu--->all programs-->and i don't see windows update :(( pls help...

The solution is as follows:
VCHOST.EXE - Application Error the Instruction at 0x7c918fea referenced memory @ 0x00000010. The memory could not be written

1. Go to Start >> Click on Control Panel

2- click> Administrative Tools

3- Click> Services

4- go to the following Service : ( Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework )

Right Click then choose Properties ----> in the start up type choose Disabled.

5. Then reboot the system.

If i didn't press OK or CANCEL button my Internet Connection still workes, but if pressed OK or CANCEL button my AUDIO System stops working (my Internet Connection doesn't works).

I was having problems with svchost.exe so i manually deleted all references to it in my registry. Now none of the software is working properly i have lost sound and network connectivity as well. Help please!!!!!

hey, i have installed windows xp sp3 y'day and shutdown the pc. next day morning when try to start pc it shows svchost.exe - application error. any idea suddenly what happen to my pc. i am quite wonder that it was working all right with windows xp sp2, but i thought of update and update to SP3 successfully but when restart pc next day i found about problem, anyone got solution/suggestion?

On my Dell Dimension 5100 computer I am receiving the following error (running Windows XP Home):

svchost.exe - Application error:
The instruction at "0x7d4caa9b" referenced memory at "0x00000010". The memory could not be "read."

How do I correct this? I am unable to start the computer and when I DO get it to run, I am receiving message that "Windows Soctets Initialization Failed."

I tried the suggested solutions above but still getting the same error.

What to do? Please help.
