I created a few Feedburner Urls to the feeds on my blog.

Currently they point to this blog so you might have to still tolerate the ads (I am looking into what I can do about that).

Isnt the Halo Pelican cool

The one disappointing thing about Halo for me was that I didn’t get the chance to get into the cockpit of a Pelican. To me the Pelican looks so cool, it almost shares the same design style from the drop ships in Starship Troopers.

Well if any of you feel like I do and want to get behind the stick of the pelican here a flash game that gives you that opportunity.

Thinking about those url shrinking sites

Yes those url shrinking sites, First there was tinyurl and now there's shrinkster. The logic behind them is pretty easy. In fact I created one at work just for the fun of it, actually named it gURL; pronounced girl and supposed to stand for Get URL.

The interesting bit about it was creating a base 36 number system to count each url stored. The actual url could be stored in a database, but I used a hashtable with the base 36 number as the key and the url as value. The hashtable was serialized once in a while to persist the data. My implementation was a little backward though, its created url were in the form of default.aspx page taking in the base 36 number a request parameter and then redirecting the page to retrieved value from the hashtable. I need to revisit that bit of code and use httphandlers when I get the time.

Now the key difference between the way Shrinkster and tinyurl works is that tinyurl recycles the urls. That is tinyurl will issue the same shrunk for every user who tries to shrink the same url (for instance http://google.com is always http://tinyurl.com/2tx). But shrinkster has the added dimension of generating a unique shrunk url for every long url provided, and thus giving them the flexibility to monitor shurnk url accesses.

Musing on GMail

OK, yesterday somebody on weblogs.asp.net or gwb pointed out PGtGM. Whoever it was I am really thankfull. Sorry for not remembering who it was. I saw the link yesterday opened it up in the browser and went home. So today I have no clue who linked to it, and a too lazy to go through the gazillion feeds looking to see who pointed it out. Again thank you for pointing that out.

Anyways Thimal and I were musing today how we could get the GMail Notification into the Trillain mail notification Window. Basically we wanted it to come amongst this list.

Somewhere along the musing the idea of getting gmail notifications via RSS sounded interesting. Looks like we werent the first to thing that way.

Want to take a closer look at that gmail javascript, plus theres a load of new trillian plugins here i want to check out, but too tired today. Perhaps if I have time tomorow

Origami - not so evil - but definitely a time killer

My friend Thimal pointed to this Origamisite. I agree the creations there are quite marvelous. Still I dont agree with his 'Origami is eeevil' quote. Could be a time waster though
