SharePoint list field names - finder
With regard to my post on SharePoint field names you might find the following code snippet useful. // Initialize the list service Lists listService = new Lists(); listService.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.... // Get the list schema XmlNode ndList = listService.GetList("ListNa... // Iterate through each field foreach (XmlNode ndField in ndList.FirstChild.ChildNodes) { string name = string.Empty; string displayName = string.Empty; // Obtain the nodes name name = (string) ......

Another one of those SharePoint mysteries - stssoap
Another one of those SharePoint Portal Server mysteries. Recently a colleague of mine was facing this dilemma. After a restore of a certain teamsite on SPS, the Search results weren't showing the contents. When she tried checking the gather log for the NonPortal Contents index it contained the following error. “The address could not be found, (0x80042616 - Error in the Site Data Web Service. ) Value cannot be null. Parameter name: uriString” Unfortunately there is a very non-relevant MS KB article ......

With regard to SharePoint field names
This is a problem I keep running into quite often and today again I spent an hour wondering why my code wouldn’t work. What I was trying to do was to use the Lists WebService (i.e. lists.asmx) to add contents on to a WSS list via the UpdateListItems() method. The reason for the hiccup in the code was that when trying to add a value to a field whose name consists of multiple words (for instance "Last Name") the field should be referred to with a "_x0020_" separating the words (i.e. "Last Name" becomes ......

Got this scoop of Neowin

Apparently there is a build of Windows 2003 SP1 available for Beta Testers. I am just wondering what changes have been made to IIS6, and if they would affect SharePoint in anyway (good or bad)

Ping-back if you guys know about SP1 for Win2k3

Geforce 6800 all sold out
The inquirer is reporting that Geforce 6800 cards are all sold out, and this posting at planethalflife taunts you that if you need to upgrade then the only thing left is ATI. This subject even though is much debated about, at the moment I feel that the Geforce 6800 is the better card. For one its got Shared Model 3, and for another even though the Source engine is destined to sport more mods than any other, there are more games targeted at Nvidia today ......

Viruses and work
<rant> Usually being at office is mostly work, and I guess that’s what an office is all about, and but working for ISV with very demanding clients, usually means that work nothing but work and usually the work environment reflects this. It’s an ‘all serious’, ‘very busy’ (a.k.a. ‘high stress’) place. However yesterday brought a little change to the usual hectic day at work, there was a virus attack and this brought little entertainment, an opportunity ......

NVidia announces new 'lower priced ' chip
Recently there was this good article atHalf-life 2 fallout on the required machine specs needed to play Half-life 2. Apprentlyit looks asif even though the Source engine might work better on an ATI card, thatmight not be the best option, since there apparently are more new games optimizedfor Nvidia than ATI. It also points out the drawbacks of the Nvidia 5XXX series. Sowith the 6800 being the best, and costly option it might possibly be the way to go,unless ofcourse this guy can entice that economy ......

Deadlink on Office 2003 WebParts
Was checking compatibility of the Office 2003 WebPart today. On a machine that doesnt have Office 2003 installed the WebPart gives the following error. "To use either the Spreadsheet Web Part or the PivotView Web Part, you must have Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 (SP2) or later and the Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components installed on your computer. Farcry is amazing - first take
I installed Farcry yesterday, and man this game is amazing! The graphics are awesome and the gameplay is fantastic. I was able to squeeze in a couple of levels last night, and I was tootally in awe whilst playing it. I love the manuerverbility, gives you the option of peeping, crawling, sprinting etc. I like the fact that you have to use a lot stealth in the game. And I love the realism The AI is pretty fantastic too. You cant just waltz into a battle, you have to take cover, and provide cover fire, ......

SharePoint, the Extranet and Security
I did link to this the other day, but I just wanted to repeat it. Of course there is no harm in linking to this a second time now is there? I learnt a lot from it so just wanted to point it to you guys (SharePoint admins/wannabes) again. This resource kit is fantastic, it is very detailed, and by that I mean very very very detailed; detailed as in it would teach you your ABCs too if you didn’t know to read. The resource kit goes into explicit detail on how you can expose SharePoint to the extranet, ......

Musing about graphics cards
I was just thinking today that my good old GeForce 4 that I have at home is comming close to retirement, and its about time I replaced it. But the question that is dancing around my mind is "with what?" The question of whether to go with an ATI or NVidia could be something as close to being as sacred as the question of 'would you buy an Evolution or Impreza WRX' - well may be not, the "Evolution or Impreza" is totally a matter of opinion with minute similarities, but the dillema is that it increasingly ......

ASP.NET 2.0, SharePoint, and IIS
I am in the process of installing VC# Express edition. For some particularly wierd reason its taking an awful long time to install for me. The .Net Framework 2.0 Beta has already been installed, and now its continuing with the setup after restart. What was interesting to note was that after the Framework 2.0 was installed my Sharepoint configuration didn't work. It complained quoting the famous error "Server Error in '/' Application." followed by a runtime error, and something to with the custom ......
