Silverlight Firestarter Today!! Local viewing event in Research Triangle Park!
What is the Silverlight Firestarter is all about? It is a one day, global, live streamed and on demand event keynoted by Scott Guthrie. It begins at 9am Pacific time. Yes, that noon for us east coasters here in the U.S. It provides new self-paced labs and walk through videos. It is interactive and you can ask the Silverlight product team questions during the event. To me the really interesting part is going to be the opening keynote by Scott Guthrie. Keynote : The Future of Silverlight Be first to...

You wouldn’t drink 9 year old milk would you?
This is an absolutely brilliant campaign to urge users that its time to move on from IE 6. I like how it puts it terms that everyone can understand and has probably experienced at one time or another. How many times have you opened the milk, took a sniff, and experienced that visceral reaction that accompanies catching a whiff of milk that has turned to the dark side of the force? I call it Darth Vader milk. :-) Of course I’m assuming that you haven’t used IE 6 for a long time now. It is our responsibility...

Six Reasons Why Windows 7 Will Win in Business
I came across this PC Mag article and figured I’d share it with you. My primary reason for doing so is to provide additional ammunition to those developers out there who want to upgrade to Windows 7 but management is hesitant to do so. I’ll leave reading the article to you but here are the six reasons stated in the article. 1. Windows XP 2. Stability and Compatibility 3. Aging Hardware 4. Vista: A 3-Year Beta Test 5. Smaller, More Agile Companies 6. Business Demand To me the most significant item...

So long Microsoft Office Accounting…
It seems that the financial software business at Microsoft is slowly being pushed off the cart. First they discontinue Microsoft Money and now, according to a PC Pro article, Microsoft Office Accounting is getting the boot as well. I found this quote on the Microsoft Office Accounting page: “Microsoft Office Accounting will no longer be distributed after November 16, 2009.” I’ll admit its been a while since we did any custom development work using the Microsoft Office Accounting developer tools but...

A two-part Visual Studio Documentary on Channel 9 pulls back the curtains on the history of your favorite development environment going waaaay back in time to the beginning. You’ll see interviews with Microsoft employees and industry veterans as they recount their memories of the...

VirtualBox: Using Shared Folders With Windows 7 RTM as Guest OS
I just got Windows 7 RTM loaded up in a VirtualBox virtual environment and one of the first things I wanted to do was set up some shared folders. It was easy enough to select Devices | Shared Folders from the VirtualBox menu, point at the folder on the host OS and give it a name for the guest OS to refer to it as, MySharedFolder for example. Set up was a piece of cake but actually being able to see those shared folders in the guest was a different story. I couldn’t find how to make that happen from...

Site Launched Looking for Suggestions to Improve Microsoft Office
Do you have a new feature you would like to see added to a Word? Maybe you have a complaint about how something in Excel works… Maybe you would like to see a specific feature in Outlook changed… or maybe you would like to make your voice heard on complaints or new features suggested by others. If so, then you will like the new site, MakeOfficeBetter.com. Is this an official Microsoft site? No, but it is the brainchild of one of the product planners on the Office team, Steve Zaske. I think this is...
