Notes From Computers 2K7 Radio Show! (September 16th, 2007)

Ok, yes I know I'm a weeee bit late getting this posted but I've had several inquiries from listeners asking for links to some of the stories I covered on the last show.

"Good morning everybody, you're tuned to Computers 2K7 on sports radio 850 The Buzz" and so began last Sunday's show as we do every Sunday morning from 8am - 10am here in Raleigh, NC. You can download the show from the show's website.

Microsoft Office Ultimate for $59.95!

Of course that sounds too good to be true but from one of the most requested stories I covered this week, Microsoft is offering Office Ultimate for $59.95 for college students.  This isn't the Office 2007 Home and Student edition, but full blown Office Ultimate 2007. There are restrictions of course like having to provide documentation that you're actually attending a college or university but if you are, what a deal!

64GB Solid State Hard Drives!

The days of solid-state drives becoming more mainstream is right around the corner... Samsung is shipping a 64GB solid state hard drive to Dell for use in Dell and Alienware laptops. Price?? $920 for the Dell upgeade and $1,100 on the Alienware box.

From the "It's About Time Someone Got It Right" Department

It seems that presidential candidate Mitt Romney's campaign headquarters were burglarized a couple weekends ago. The thieves made off with multiple notebook computers among other things. The good news is that each machine was password enabled AND the hard drives are encrypted. Pay attention corporate America, financial institutions and other organization with individuals running around with sensitive information on their laptops!

Say Cheese!!

If you want to be sure that you only capture photos of people smiling than Sony has the camera for you. Check out this PC Magazine article titled "Sony Cameras Add 'Smile Check' Tech"

As usual, we had a caller or two ask about anti-virus software and we're currently reccomending the free version from AVG.
