Article Source: http://geekswithblogs.net/c... I hit problems in an orchestration consuming WCF services exposed by Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 (AX6). When attempting to catch a fault response, I was getting the error "received unexpected message type 'http://www.w3.org/2003/05/... In order to fix this, I needed to change the schema for the fault message in the port type that had been created using "Add Generated Items." I changed it to the SOAP 1.2 fault type. Thanks to this ...
Over the last few days I’ve been coding away with several ORMS and code generators trying to find me one which I am comfortable with. Here is what I learn Not all ORMs are perfect! WCF services under Azure have a nasty habit of not really telling you what you need to know. Having fought through this – and having been challenged to find exactly what I needed in a Google search, I thought I’d add some more specific info here. Before I do, let me say thanks to Steve Marx, whose blog posts and forum answers pointed me in the right direction. Here are the exceptions that surfaced: ConfigurationErrorsException: Could not create Microsoft.WindowsAzure.Diag... ...
We are glad to release the BizTalk RFID Data Services as part of our open source contribution here at Tellago. Let me get into some details on what’s BizTalk RFID data service and who can take advantage of it. BizTalk RFID data service is all about exposing BizTalk RFID artifacts as Restful service interface which can be easily accessed by different application within the enterprise and outside such as mobile applications. So anyone who wants to monitor the BizTalk RFID can take advantage of it. ...
A recent project used Enterprise Library Validation to validate domain objects, and needed it configured for a web front end, a WCF front end, and (of course) unit tests. The same configuration in 3 different places didn't strike me as very DRY, so I figured hey - why not have it configure itself? Here's a quick paraphrase of how I did it. I started with an abstraction of the validation service:public interface IValidationService { bool IsValid<T>(T objectToValidate) where T : class; }...which ...
My blog has been quiet recently, mainly because I've been spending a bunch of time putting together an iPhone app which talks to a set of RESTful WCF services hosted in Azure, backing onto SQL Azure for storage. This post is a technical walkthrough of that architecture and some of the learning experiences, but after this it will be back to normal. I have a couple of nice open-source projects which are coming soon, including a log4net appender which writes to Event Tracing for Windows (ETW), and a ...

You cant pass MultiD arrays accross the wire using WCF - you need to pass jagged arrays. heres 2 extension methods that will allow you to convert prior to serialzation and convert back after deserialization: public static T[,] ToMultiD<T>(this T[][] jArray) { int i = jArray.Count(); int j = jArray.Select(x => x.Count()).Aggregate(0, (current, c) => (current > c) ? current : c); var mArray = new T[i, j]; for (int ii = 0; ii < i; ii++) { for (int jj = 0; jj < j; jj++) { mArray[ii, ...
LightSwitch Beta 2 is out. That’s how all this started. All I wanted was to install it on my MBP’s Win7 Parallels VM. But as I’m finding with running a Win7 VM on a MBP, nothing is as easy as it should be. First my MBP froze during the SP1 installation. Not my VM crashing, the entire machine freezing…no mouse, nothing. Had to do a hard reset. BLECH. Then we’re back and I try to re-install SP1 (since the first try obviously failed). I get met with a dialog asking me where silverlight_sdk.msi was. ...

Quick post on an issue that we were having today. This fix may just be a band-aid for another issue but this fix at least got us moving again today. Since I didn’t see anything concrete online for a solution I figured I would post this as a part one fix and then post a more detailed fix later. We were getting this error earlier today in one of our projects that uses EF and WCF Ria Services. This entity is currently read-only. One of the following conditions exist: a custom method has been invoked, ...
I had always been a fan of ANTS products (Reflector is absolutely invaluable, and their performance profiler is great as well – very easy to use!), so I was curious to see what the ANTS Memory Profiler could show me. You can check out more information about the profiler at Red Gate's web site at www.red-gate.com/products/d... Background While a performance profiler will track how much time is typically spent in each unit of code, a memory profiler gives you much ...
Last week I was fortunate enough to spend time in Redmond on Microsoft’s campus for the 2011 Microsoft MVP Summit. It was great to hang out with a number of old friends and get the opportunity to talk tech with the various product teams up at Microsoft. The weather wasn’t exactly sunny but Microsoft always does a great job with the Summit and everyone had a blast (heck, I even got to run the bases at SafeCo field) While much of what we saw is covered under NDA, there a ton of great things in the ...
Ok, So you're here because you've been trying to solve the mystery of why you're getting a 504 error. If you've made it to this lonely corner of the Internet, then the advice you're getting from other bloggers isn't the answer you are after. It wasn't the answer I needed either, so once I did solve my problem, I thought I'd share the answer with you. For starters, if by some miracle, you landed here first you may not already know that the 504 error is NOT coming from IIS or Casini, that response ...

Answer I have been asked a couple of times this year about taking compute intensive operations to Windows Azure and/or High Performance Computing on Windows Azure. It is an interesting (if slightly niche) area. The good news is we have a great paper from David Chappell on HPC Server and Windows Azure integration. WCF - Automatically create ServiceHost for multiple services Welcome back readers! This blog post is about a small tip that may make working with WCF servicehost a bit easier, if you have lots of services and you need to quickly host them for testing. Recently I was encountered a situation where we were faced to create multiple service host quickly for testing. Here is the code snippet which is pretty self explanatory. You can put this code in your service host which in this case is a console application. ...

Applications get data from lots of different sources. The most common is to get data from a database or a web service. Typically, we encapsulate calls to a database in a Repository object and we create some sort of IRepository interface as an abstraction to decouple between layers and enable easier unit testing by leveraging faking and mocking. This works great for database interaction. However, when consuming a RESTful web service, this is is not always the best approach. The WCF Web APIs that are ...

Enterprises (large bureaucracies) obsess about risk. I think it is because of the inertia generated by the process and politics that they have to deal with. The trouble is that they respond to risk in precisely the wrong way: by adding complexity. Need to call a method? Better wrap it in WCF service. Need to talk to another application? Better hook a message queue to a service bus connected to a biztalk sharepoint – on Oracle. Here is a simple guide: Complexity increases risk. Simplicity reduces ...

Jesus Rodriguez has blogged recently on Tellago Devlabs' release of an open source RESTful API for BizTalk Server Business Rules. A few months ago myself and colleagues had open sourced the BizTalk Data Services. We were meanwhile working on other artifacts which comes along with BizTalk Server like the “Business Rules Engine”. We are happy to announce the first version of BRE Data Services. BRE Data Services is a same concept which we covered through BTS Data Services, providing a RESTFul OData – based API to interact with the Business Rules Engine via HTTP using ATOM Publishing Protocol or JSON as the encoding mechanism. ...
We are in the process of upgrading our BizTalk Environment from BizTalk 2006 R2 to BizTalk 2010. The SAP adaptor in BizTalk 2010 is an all new and more powerful WCF-SAP adaptor. When my colleagues tested out the new adaptor they discovered that the format of the data extracted from SAP was not identical to the old adaptor. This is not a big deal if the structure of the messages from SAP is simple. In this case we were receiving the delivery and invoice iDocs. Both these structures are complex especially ...

Many of my clients are actively using Silverlight 4 and RIA Services to build powerful line of business applications. I’m a big proponent of RIA services and wanted to take the opportunity to share some of my experiences in setting up these types of projects. In late 2010 I presented a ...
Getting this silly thing to work turned out to be a painful experience, so I am recording my lessons learned so that if some other downtrodden programmer wants to see what I did, they will be able to figure it out faster (hopefully): Ok, so say you have a silverlight application and you want to talk to a database. Silverlight is Client-based, and Databases are Server based. This is a problem. You can either pass the values in initially (not very good for interactive stuff) or you can make a WCF service. ...
