To prepare a bootable CE disk for PC based system, you need to create the partition, format it and transfer the booting files. CE provides a tool CESYS.EXE to transfer boot sector and copy bootloader to target volume for BIOSLOADER. The tool is created since CE 4 and unfortunately, it is out dated and only support FAT12 or FAT16. Modern storage devices have larger capacity and prefer or require to use FAT32/ExFAT. For CE7, there is a new CESYS platform\CEPC\src\boot\tool... that ...

Oliver Ogg Oliver Ogg, occasional salsa dancer, blogged the other day about a problem he was having installing MSMQ. The root cause was an invalid registry entry for the Event Log Service. MSMQ needed to write an event during setup but would fail as this service was not working. Once the Event Log service was fixed, MSMQ would install successfully. The problem was specifically the ServiceDll registry value referring to an empty string so the event log service could not find the service DLL file to ...

Microsoft Expression Blend is a design tool that allows you to create fantastic user interfaces for such Windows based applications and Web applications. You can use Expression Blend with .NET Framework 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0 applications. What Blend can do for you One of the prime advantages of Expression Blend is its ability to separate code from design. Using Blend, designers can work independently on one set of deliverables for a project while developers can work on another. But this doesn’t mean ...

I recently obtained a Samsung Omnia 7 with the WP7 OS. Straight off the bat - let me say how impressed I am with this phone and how easy it is to use. It took about 3 minutes to have all my Gmail and Facebook contacts loaded and merged and be connected to the Wifi. Another huge plus is the Zune software. This absolutely beats the ITunes for Windows software hands down when it comes to podcasts. Other pluses included the screen being so bright and the physical size of the phone which is comfortable ...

I have always been slightly confused about the difference between classes and structures in C#. For many years, structures seemed identical to classes, but were simply not as extensible. Recently I had a relook at them and came up with two key identifying features that help me differentiate the two.. Where they are stored Value and Reference values So, the first main difference for me is that structure instances are stored on the stack and class instances are stored on the heap. The second main difference ...

Introduction One of the first things I wanted to do after installing the Azure AppFabric June CTP was to create an AppFabric application that used the Bing Map SOAP services. That was when I hit my first roadblock. There is currently no option in the AppFabric Application Designer to add a reference to an external service. After asking around in the forums I learned that I should build an external service to do this. There is currently very little documentation on creating external services for Azure ...
Last day of WPC, so what should we start with? You guessed it – KEYNOTES! But Thursday was all about the regional keynotes, so all the Canadian partners packed into a room to hear from Canadian Microsoft executives. In Canada there are three different groups within Microsoft Canada – Small/Medium Business, Enterprise Business, and DPE. While in the past partners were slotted into one of the different groups, now moving forward we’re all just identified as playing in a certain area, not committed ...
We kick off Day 4 at, you guessed it, another keynote (maybe they should rename this to the Worldwide Partner Keynote Conference?). We kick off with the Canadian Tenors singing some song they wrote for the Vancouver Olympics, and then a parade of partners carrying their country’s flag enters. I feel like I’m at Folklarama back in Winnipeg. ;) So today we have some big names speaking. Kevin Turner, Microsoft’s COO and Sir Richard Branson are on the schedule. Kevin Turner If you have never seen Kevin ...
The keynote session for the morning was a mixture of things. It started with an all-female rock band singing Cold Play’s “Viva la Vida”, then had all partners-of-the-year winners parade on stage, and then we got into the specific messaging part. There were five separate keynotes this morning from different business units within Microsoft. First up was Cloud. Note that I didn’t say Azure, although that’s part of it. Azure is the public cloud, but Microsoft talked up the Private Cloud a lot at this ...

As I do almost every year, I rearranged my home office. This time I moved my desk against the wall and added a shelve to support my main monitors. This allows me to work from my two macs when I am at home, and RDP into my Windows development laptop (below the monitors). I mainly use the macs for graphics work and photography now. The MacBook Air is still goes with me each day and sometimes I bring the iPad as well. Without better pen support, the iPad is just my couch app device or car device for ...
I just got back from Microsoft’s 15,000 attendee-strong Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC) in Los Angeles, and I have to say, the company and its partners are pumped. How can this be, given the number of people who have written Microsoft’s eulogy of late? If Amazon owns the cloud, if Apple owns the consumer, if Google owns search, if Cisco owns unified communications, if EMC/VMWare owns virtualization, if Oracle and SAP own ERP and if Oracle/Siebel and Salesforce.com own CRM, how can Microsoft be ...

I recently acquired a Samsung Omni 7 with the Windows Phone 7 OS installed. With this device I have a new found desire to learn Windows Phone 7 programming and embarked on the endeavour by reading “Programming Windows Phone 7” by Charles Petzold (ISBN 978-0-7356-4335-2). I really enjoyed going through the book. While the one I was reading had a few spelling mistakes in it (not that I am one to point any fingers) I am sure they had been rectified before it went to print (I was reading the free ebook). ...
Yesterday I started a discussion about adding a new command to nuget.exe. It ended in creating an extension to the command line that behaves in the same way without having to dive into the nuget code base or add more complexity to it. I haven’t seen any blog posts or documentation surrounding this new concept (new in nuget 1.4) of extending the command line except for Matt Hamilton’s posts on using NuGet for plug-ins and NuGet with MEF (which are not quite this concept). Here is my experience. I ...
I wanted to take this time to introduce myself. My name is Roger O'Dell Jr. My development training is in .NET, but my current job requires me to work with Java and Android. I have been doing mobile development now for almost a year. And what a year it has been. I had the opportunity to go to a Microsoft Conference in Overland Park, KS last year. For any one new to RFID, when RFID device reads tags it can read the same tag information more than once at a given interval. ...
