Few minutes ago, I saw @mShady, my dear friend (Real life friend, not just on twitter) tweeting: RT @ASGEgypt: RT @scrum_coach: Should the team be allowed to drop the retrospective? http://bit.ly/bkOgv #scrum #agile #lean #xp #kanban I checked the post and found the options are: Yes, It’s their process why not? No, explain to them and work through why the retrospective is so important. Maybe, if they are no longer a team then why continue with Scrum? Only do retrospectives once a quarter and build...
Yesterday I changed my twitter username from @Mohamed_Meligy to just @Meligy. Why? I have been thinking about this step for a long time, as my tweets are relatively long, and when I want to to allow people to re-tweet. With my old username, I used to have to write at max 120 characters per tweet to allow re-tweet (leaving 20 characters out of the real 140 characters limit to “RT @Mohamed_Meligy: ”). With my new twitter username I can use up to 128 characters (leaving 12 for “RT @Meligy: ”). I know...
At last i got some time to work on long pending “project: i have thought of. This one is about listing all twitter friends in a connected graph and see their statuses. It uses Twitter API and WCF service to feed the silverlight. WCF acts as an adapter to twitter service. The idea is to connect to other services like “orkut”, “facebook”, “Mayspace” etc in future. It uses SL 3.0; so you must have it installed to run this: Here are the snapshots of the running application.(Running in flock)!! You may...
Here is how to add a “Tweet” button to your ActiveForums threads, using John Resig’s (@jeresig) “Easy Retweet Button”. I added a “Tweet” button to the header of each post, right next to the existing quote/reply buttons. First, modified the default styling of John’s retweet.js so that the tweet button matches ActiveForums. I modified retweet in the following ways: Set the link_text to just “ Tweet”. I killed the click count by setting count_type to “none”. Completely deleted the “styling:”...
I’ve always wished I could customize the skin on my blog at GeeksWithBlogs.Net. GeeksWithBlogs is built on SubText, and of course its just a skin, but since GWB is hosting my blog and I don’t have control over the skin files myself I am limited to what I can do with it. Well, today I finally did it, after some inspiration from John Resig (@jeresig) and his “Easy Retweet Button”. I added a “Tweet This!” button to the footer of each post. First, I modified the default styling of John’s retweet.js so...
The reason I’m writing this is because every other day I see someone twitter statuses like: “TweetDeck does not support Arabic”, “Cannot view Arabic tweets in TweetDeck” or similar notes, so that I can just guide people to this post rather than write the same tweet reply! TweetDeck supports Arabic and other complex script languages. I guess any Unicode language. It’s just not enabled by default. A picture is worth 210 words. Here is what you need to enable it: Yet, one thing I don’t understand is:...
Antonio Chagoury, VB MVP, has constructed a list of Twitter accounts for VB MVPs, VB Team members, and others who are influential in the VB.NET community on his personal blog, CTO v2.0. This list has many great people who are not only talented in VB, but also who have great talents in many aspects of the .NET framework. I’m listed as a VB MVP, but if you don’t want the full list you can still check me out at http://twitter.com/svickn. However, I’d recommend checking out the rest of these guys too,...
Well that title may be a little misleading, but I fixed several issues with the community twitter tools we have on Geekswithblogs including integrating the Follower counts for each member into a new twitter cloud. The link to the community twitter portal is: http://wblo.gs/?q=twitter I also fixed a few linking errors: Underscores are supported for those who link to … ummmm… D’Arcy is the only one I know who uses underscores so him. @darcy_lussier #Hashtags will not turn into links for search Thanks...
If you are not on Twitter, let me spread this by @bing: Ladies and Gentlemen, www.bing.com is live. :) (rollouts will continue however to partners and other mkts, more to come) ^betsy Bing, if you don’t know, is Microsoft’s new search engine, also known as “Decision Engine” since it has features that help answer what you are wondering about rather than just display links. For those wondering about Live Search. I think I read somewhere that both search engines will remain there for a while, then Live...
I am going to be blogging the sessions I attend at TechEd 2009 in Los Angeles right here on my humble blog. They will be almost exclusively messaging and mobility related - ‘cause that’s how I roll! I will also tweet as much as I can (I only have two arms) under @ntpro. You can also follow general TechEd 2009 tweets by searching hash tags #teched and #tela09. Great blog post from the team the runs the hands on labs (HOL) at TechEd. Three days away – it is almost time. Technorati Tags: Twitter,tweet,Exchange...
In an earlier post I showed how I use the RSSBus SharePoint WebPart to show a list of Twitter search results in your SharePoint pages. Now I’ll expand on that a bit to show how to make the WebPart a bit more dynamic. The script of the webpart itself gives a ton of power to the webpart user. As shown before, each tweet can be formatted however you like. But we can do so much more, like specifying webpart input properties. Starting with the same script from last time, here’s how I can make the search...
I saw Michael @Gannotti’s Tweets Wiki and thought it was pretty handy. It made me think of @jazzychad’s TweetGrid and how that would be nice inside SharePoint. So I combined these two into my own little twitter search page in SharePoint, and here’s how: Tools I used: RSSBus SharePoint WebPart. Installed and activated the RSSBus SharePoint WebPart, added the webpart to my SharePoint page. I went to search.twitter.com, and did a search for “PowerShell”. The results page includes the RSS feed for the...
Follow Me On Twitter http://twitter.com/Mohamed_Meligy So, a very short note on my last news is that now I’m in Abu Dhabi, UAE; for a while not having a laptop, which is why I haven’t blogged since dotNETwork CodeCamp’09. Then I thought of Micro-blogging. If you know Twitter already you know what I mean, if not, think of something like facebook status; micro space to say something that’s in your mind now. A good way to say something quick and it has been popular for technical guys and even some western...
If you’re at MVP Summit 2009 (or not at Summit) and trying to find people to follow I’ve started putting together a list of MVPs and Microsoft employees that I know who are here. Everyone should be using the #mvp09 hashtag for their tweets, so you can follow the conversations using #hashtags, Twitter Search, Twopular, TweetScan, or any other twitter search sites. If you want to be included in this list (or have updates to your information), leave a comment or message me on Twitter. Microsoft MVPs...
1. I installed and activated the RSSBus Web Part for SharePoint, which allows me as a SharePoint owner or member to create a customized web part from one of dozens of RSSBus connectors or any RSS/Atom feed I like, such as a Twitter Search RSS feed. 2. I added the RSSBus Web Part to my SharePoint page, and edited its content using the Source Editor. I am using the following template to format the results of my search.twitter.com RSS result: <rsb:call op=http://search.twitter.com/search.atom?q=+PowerShell+OR+RSSBus...
Twitter exposes a really nice API. I thought wouldn’t it be fun if you could display a rolling list of messages that have been posted to you. I figured this would be really useful for public events, live shows etc. Stick with me :-) So to prove the concept, I thought lets implement this in the Compact Framework so that it would be easy to run on a CE machine. connected to our JumboTron display. Cutting to the chase, if you want a download of the application in its entirety you can install it on your...
There are a lot of different sites available for sharing pictures on Twitter, but it seems like there are very few that allow you to easily share videos. All of that has changed with the launch today of TweeTube. TweeTube bills itself as being “The easiest way to share videos on Twitter” and from what I’ve seen so far, it is. You can search YouTube for videos with matching keywords, or if you already know the video you can paste the URL. After you find the video (in this case I am sharing a video...
Lee and Sachi LeFever have made a pretty interesting video to cover how twitter can help strengthen your social network. you can watch the video here: http://dotsub.com/api/smallplayer.php?filmid=3066&filminstance=3068&language=none And I found this cool information via Community Credit’s forums! I found a new Twitter toy today. It is called TweetMyPage. It is not an application that needs an installer. You setup your settings and TweetMyPage gives you a javascript you add to your bookmarks. When you are reading a page you want to Twitter, you click on your TweetMyPage bookmark and it will ask you for your Twitter user id and password. Once you give it your credentials it will tweet a message similar to the following: Reading (http://linktoarticle) title of article. Currently TweetMyPage...
If you're an avid twitterer (or twit for short), you'll be very familiar with it's downtime issues. Well as I see it, there are 3 major problems Twitter has. Downtime, Spammers, and a lack of viable income. So how do I think it can solve it's problems? Simple, charge anyone with a follow to follower ratio greater than 2 to 1. This would immediately eliminate 99% of spammers, drastically cut the system resource issues (thus reducing downtime), and create an income for company. While I doubt this will...

I am twitterpated with twitter. Ok so that is a bit strong but for some reason I am addicted to twitter. What is twitter? Well think of MSN messenger and AOL messenger mashed up with your favorite forum and walla! So what is so cool with it? Not sure. I mean to the untrained eye it looks like a bunch of people posting about what they are doing as if someone gives a ________ (enter favorite word here). It just happens to be that you invite friends to watch and listen to your tweets! Once again twitter...
Social computing, while not a new phenomenon, has had a huge push in the past couple years. Gone is the day of MySpace, and the new kid on the block is Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn (Honorable mention to Plaxo, who needs to find their niche a bit better other than contact synching). Here are three different stories that have impacted me in the last week concerning social computing. Today David O'Hara brought up the subject of why he had more Twitter followers than RSS followers. My theory is Twitter...
While it seems that most people have figured out how to link up their Twitter account with their blog, there may be some newer bloggers that either haven't taken the time to figure out how or didn't even know you could. For that reason, I've created a very short screencast detailing how to set up your blog with Twitter integration - ah, I wish more things were this easy to set up! Click Here for screencast. Technorati Tags: Geekswithblogs,Jerod Crump,Twitter,Screencast...
Or anywhere you can put some HTML. This is really easy and allows you to have something like: As Twitter publish your twit list as an RSS feed you can just add it to FeedBurner and use one of its tools to create the above image. So easy it hurts... Technorati Tags: RSS, Twitter, Twitter badge...
I have updated the Xbox Live to Twitter application and it works quite well now. There are currently too many updates as you can see from my twitter on the left of my blog . I will hopefully be adding some more customisation functionality to allow "only online" or "only title" changes to propagate. I may try to add some SQL Compact bits so differences in Achievements can be logged, but the data is currently limited... I like this play pen as it allows me to explore some of the .NET 3.5 functionality...
I had been trying to find an application that provided updates to twitter from my Xbox. There is such an application written by Duncan Mackenzie, but I could not get it to work. I tried everything and ended up decompiling the application to see what was wrong. Well, it seamed that the guts of the application was missing! The source code has all of the UI elements, but none of the bit to do the updates. I tested the web service and it worked, so the only thing to do (Duncan has not updated the application...
I wanted to let all the Geekswithblogs.net members who read my site (and readers as well) of some of the new features we have on our skins for the Twitter and Tag features released last week. If you integrate your Twitter account with your Geekswithblogs account, not only will you be part of a new Main Feed for Twitters, but your blog will show your 10 latest Twitters on the skin. Here is a view of what this looks like. Additionally, when you use the Tagging feature, a new Tag Cloud will show up...
Just started using Feedburner for my site rss, along with the integration support from GWB. It works fine! From now my Feedburner RSS URL is: http://feeds.feedburner.com/joycsharp. Also GWB provided support for Twitter, which I have also started using. I think Twitter is going to another nice Web 2.0 feature. Nice stuff! Also, I said good bye to Google Ad Sense, as I have seen it's not providing enough profit (0.23 USD in 30 days!) for thousands of page loads. I wonder how Google do billion dollar...
I just published the latest version of Geekswithblogs.net (including SubText 1.9.5) and I hope you like it. One of the features I added was Twitter integration. Twitter is a micro-blogging service that members use to let their followers know what they are doing at any given moment. This service is excellent so there was no reason to recreate the wheel, and with their API, i could easily grab the information from Twitter and publish it on Geekswithblogs.net. These are the steps to configure your blog...
John and I have been working hard to get Geekswithblogs.net updated to SubText 1.9.5 and also take an opportunity to add some additional features and put some framework items in place. SubText 1.9.5 made one major change and a few minor one and bug fixes. The major change is Tagging. If you use Live Writer, make sure you are using the Technorati tagging feature in the tool as SubText will review your posts for Technorati tags and add them to your site. One of the new features that you will not see...
Continuing on with RSSBus scripts showing how to pipe Google Calendar to Twitter and Flickr to Twitter, here's my last Twitter RSBScript. Here's a script to pipe any existing RSS feed to Twitter. I wanted to sync my blog with my twitter, so now everytime I post a new blog entry, it will be added to my Twitter status. Here's the url: http://www.textbox1.com/apps/twitterminder/blog_to_twitter.rsb? blog_url=http%3A%2F%2Ffeeds.feedburner.com%2FTextBoxOne &twitter_password=mypassword &twitter_user=mytwittername....
To illustrate what I mentioned in the previous post about how swapping out one connector for another to achieve a completely different task would be very simple - I did just that. I noticed that Dave Winer has been working on some sort of Flickr->Twitter app. I changed about 4 lines of code in the Gcal_to_Twitter RSBScript to make it into Flickr_to_Twitter. In the updated script, all I did was change the call to gcalSearch to a call to the atom feed of my Flickr photos. Then I do a quick check...
UPDATE: For full TwitterMinder documentation, see this TwitterMinder article. In my last two posts I mentioned my recent introduction to Twitter (after having watched so many people blab about it for the past few months). So today I went ahead and published my Google Calendar to Twitter RSBScript, and gave it the name TwitterMinder: TwitterMinder will check your Google Calendar for events that are occuring in the next hour, and if it finds any, they will be automatically submitted to your Twitter...
A few months ago, Charlie pointed out how it might be useful to have a script that would automatically post Google Calendar events on Twitter. Then he found someone that had already done it. Well, at the time I filed a note to do this with RSSBus - but then I got busy and never got to it - until today! :) Let me say that I did the RSSBus script first, and then I looked at how the other guy did it (he used a 200 line php script + Yahoo Pipes). Here's my roughly 20 line RSB script (using the RSSBus...
If you are using Twitter, let me know so I can follow you. Yep, I'm on Twitter now, finally. I decided to give it a shot and see what all the hoopla is about. Is it really that great? We'll see. While I'm checking it out - I decided to look at its API and look into whether or not I should throw together a Twitter connector for RSSBus. The API is very compact - simple and to the point. All simple HTTP get and put. All of the API methods return data in several formats - it looks like all of the gets...
Robert Scoble has apparently given up on email. He makes a good point for clear, open communication in his latest Twitter rant. If nothing else, the following tweets force me to consider the possibility of 1) defaulting to open communications (blog, twitter, forum) or 2) making sure that my private communication is acceptable for public consumption - don't say anything that the world couldn't see (not that the world is really all that interested in what I am doing.) From Twitter via pidgin: (13:51:42)...
Andy Beard, on his blog with more eye-cringing flair than any I've seen in recent memory, touches on a very important subject: "Technorati simply can't cope with new forms of blogging and RSS feed generation." This is only going to get worse for Technorati and many other services that use (not just track) RSS feeds. But I don't think the question is "how to fix Technorati?", as Andy suggests. I think the question is how to fix Technorati AND CoComment, Twitter, and the like. Fortunately the answer...
