This took a lot of google foo and twiddling, so I figured I would post this. That, and I fully expect I'll be scratching my head a few weeks from now and wondering where I put my sample XML ;) The configuration file below assumes that you have included the bins from the following folders included with the NHibernate download (I use 2.1.1): <Your NHibernate install frolder>\Required_For_La... <Your NHibernate install frolder>\Required_Bins\*... And here's the App config ...

Topic I will present an introduction to NHibernate and Fluent NHibernate. This introduction will not only discuss NHibernate in isolation but show its usage embedded in a realistic yet simple WPF application. All aspects of how to setup, run and extend such an application will be discussed. An important focus will be put on the differences between testing and running the application. Bio After receiving my Ph.D. of Physics at the Federal Institute of Technologies in Zurich, Switzerland, I worked ...
My first thought – who needs another language? Are new languages the new rage? If I were to design a new language (I am not qualified, trust me), what would it address . . . It would be garbage collected (no brainer) It would run in a VM (actually, many different VMs ) It would also be statically typed (I think many would disagree these days) Threading would be a focus (with message passing as a language feature). Certainly include some aspects of functional programming languages It would have first ...
While google wave may be the future of communication, it's certainly not there yet. This wave robot allows you to register to get emails whenever a wave changes (or to get hourly, daily, or weekly digests). Now you can know when an important wave changes. in the future it will also provide RSS feeds for changes on a waves as well as providing webhooks to allow developers to perform their own operations when a wave changes. Add it to your wave: wavedigest@appspot.com check out the code and let me ...
Microsoft has released a new Facebook SDK Version 3.0 (other than their old not-so-great one) and it looks to have not just updated APIs but also wide range of features supported in many application types. Quoting a related blog post from c|net “The web services report” blog: http://news.cnet.com/8301-1... Microsoft on Monday released a software development kit for Facebook that allows developers to create Facebook applications for Silverlight and Windows Presentation Foundation. ...
Today a colleague ask me to help. On his system all ReSharper menus are grayed out. Also the Visual Studio Add-In Manager does not show this add-in. He tried: a new installation: without success, running with administrative privilegeg: without success, looking in event- and application-logs: no entries. After searching a little bit with old buddy google we found this message: Wild World of Visual Studio -- Mysterious Component We downloaded and installed the latest Microsoft Core XML Services (MSXML) ...
The tech influencers’ Twitter streams have been all aflutter this weekend, with talk of the Motorola Droid. Verizon Wireless launched its version this phone on Friday, and the techies are swooning. They love the screen, the Google Maps-based turn-by-turn navigation and the thinness of the phone, which still manages to sport a physical, slide-out keyboard. Most of all they love the Verizon network, which offers resilient service and ubiquitous 3G coverage. There seems to be something else though. ...
During installation of the SAP .NET Connector the setup throws this error because no Visual Studio 2003 could be found.
If you only need the assembly sap.connector.dll (for instance in cases of old projects which references this dll) you could ask google for downloading it ;-)

One of the things I have always hated was “Windows Search”. Why the heck would I need “instant results” – instant as in donating countless CPU cycles and disk churns to background indexing operations running all day long on my box? YUK! I am never actually “looking” for something – I know where everything is. It’s right where I put it. Who are these people “looking” for things on their computers all the time? Typical Scenario My typical use case came up again this morning: I downloaded a source distribution ...
I've been on a contract in this facility for over 4 years now. That's actually a good thing considering my age. I wouldn't be disappointed if I could stay here until I went out of scope. But that can't stop me from complaining... that's just the nature of the beast. In my first letter back home from basic training my Mother worried that I was ok. My Father told her "He's complaining, he's fine!" ... so I guess 39 years later things haven't changed :) Logic tells me that if a company is paying a LOT ...
This series is going to document increasingly complex usages of the jQuery UI Dialog widget. This first part of the series will demonstrate how to display the default dialog. Other series members: jQuery UI Dialog: Part 2 – The Modal Dialog The jQuery UI Dialog is a powerful client-side dialog control. It is bundled as part of the jQuery UI suite and as such it is available on the Google CDN. to download the source code please click here In the earlier post we have discussed little bit about the limited number of worker threads available in the thread pool of ASP.NET and we identified why we should always try to avoid to block those important worker threads. ASP.NET 2.0 introduces Asyn=”true” attribute in the page to handle asynchronous scenarios and under the hood this attribute tells ASP.NET to implement IHttpAsyncHandler in the page. There are more than one ways available in ASP.NET ...
I received an invitation to Google’s Wave yesterday (I have no idea why) and so I went immediately to go check it out. One of the first things I ran into was the suggestion by Google that I install Chrome Frame, so I did. I then accessed Google Wave fine, but didn’t really do too much. Today, I noticed while doing my typical browsing (using multiple tabs in IE8) that when I’d close a TAB, it wouldn’t close. It’d stay open for what seemed like minutes (I didn’t clock it) before finally closing. Then ...

Postings for blogs i write with Windows Live Writer. To support syntax highlighting a plugin must be used. Actualle source code is formatted with the plugin Code Snippet plugin for Windows Live Writer. Tested formatters The following formatters are tested, but in my opinion thats not a good decision: Insert Code for Windows Live Writer i miss the capability to specify a box which includes the source code content. Well finally I am dedicating myself (again) to starting up a blog about good practices in Business Intelligence using SQL Server 2005 & 2008. So just to prove to myself that this isn’t a fad I’ve downloaded the Microsoft Live Writer to help me publish this thing. Now all I need is to make things look a bit sexy and we’ll be off! I hope at least some of these articles will appear in your google searches to help you out of some annoying and tricky situations in SSIS, SSAS, SSRS & the SQL Server ...
I am a great fan of Google Reader like most of the people here. I read lots of blog feeds everyday (at least 50 of them). If you are a Google Reader'er, you must be knowing a little icon stuff shown above every line feed called "X people liked this" It means there are people who express that they liked this feed. In the above case it is 100+ people have liked this feed. Now, I was trying to express my likeness about this feed. How to do this? I've not seen such option elsewhere in the page. Is this ...
I wrote on my main blog a small review for Office Live Apps - the Google Docs alternative from Microsoft.

This whole IE6 mess starts out with PNGs. I'm not much of an image editor, (okay, fine. I can't crop a picture in photoshop to save my life.) but I do know that PNGs are pretty sweet. Basically they allow varying degrees of transperancy, and really, who can say no to that? IE6 can! One of our clients decided that they wanted a gradient in the header of their site. No problemo, we'll just whip up a gradient image and stick it in the background. That was easy enough, but oh wait there's a bit of an ...
Sorry, already promised out all of my 8 invites, so no begging :)
I agree with my buddy Rob when he says, "I hope that my dreams are not crushed when I actually start to get to use it."
I can't wait to see what kinds of neat things I can do with it! More to come, as I crash into Google Wave...
The latest version of Ra-Ajax, 2.0.3, was released last night. This release has a couple of important bug fixes and a new Effect called EffectCssClass. This new effect was contributed by Karel Boek. EffectCssClass simply allows you to change the CSS class of a widget easily when doing chained and/or joined effects, like this: new EffectFadeIn(panel1, 500).ChainThese( new EffectHighlight(panel1, 700), new EffectCssClass(panel1, "className"), new EffectRollUp(panel1, 1000)) .Render(); Ra-Ajax version ...
I have been fiddled with Java Plugin on Google Chrome for a while but having a problem getting it to work even though I follow the steps on many websites. I finally tracked down the issue. It seems that Google Chrome searches for installed JRE plugin by querying HKLM/SOFTWARE/JavaSoft/Java Runtime Environment/BrowserJavaVersion If the value in there refers to the version older than 1.6.0_10, it will not work. To fix it, you need to install JRE with version 1.6.0_10 or later then modify this registry ...
There's a post title that'll screw with Google results. My fortune cookie from Panda reads: Avoid unchallenging occupations - they waste your talents. This is followed by what appears to be a little ad for Panda Express and Panda Inn (I guess those are the occupations that wouldn't waste my talents). Overall, I agree with the cookie, but I could use a little less challenge for a while. I haven't posted in a bit largely because of the challenge. Writing your own MVC framework from scratch is not something ...
Did you ever wonder why your system at random times hangs? Sometimes it comes back after a few seconds (could simply be paging) but at least once a day I wish I would be able to know why the system is responding so slowly. Before going into kernel land I must confess that I have never written a device driver so my knowledge to kernel mode debugging is quite limited but on the other hand if you did not do this either you will have a much easier time to follow me. Some hangs seem to be Heisenbugs which ...
In my opinion Internet Explorer, which is one of the worst product from Microsoft! (Sorry, no offense! its just my opinion and I guess most others feel the same who thinks browser should be more innovative in making us more productive) How much time it takes to load the about:blank page. why Ctrl+E doesn't go to search box? sick of useless extensions/accelerators, why cant i do paste and go in address bar? why can’t i drag a tab out of tab group? does it ever pass ACID3 test ? Does it ever pass ACID ...
Wow! Last month’s meeting was terrific! Claudio Lassala’s presentation rocked. Also, the format of the meeting worked so well we’re going to stick with it for the Wednesday, October 28th meeting. This month FredNUG has another great speaker lined up. We’ll start with pizza and social networking at 6:30 PM. Then, starting at 7 PM, Antonio Chagoury will present Mash-Up Your DotNetNuke Using RESTful APIs. This sounds like an informative presentation covering a variety of key technologies. The scheduled ...
Yesterday I changed my twitter username from @Mohamed_Meligy to just @Meligy. Why? I have been thinking about this step for a long time, as my tweets are relatively long, and when I want to to allow people to re-tweet. With my old username, I used to have to write at max 120 characters per tweet to allow re-tweet (leaving 20 characters out of the real 140 characters limit to “RT @Mohamed_Meligy: ”). With my new twitter username I can use up to 128 characters (leaving 12 for “RT @Meligy: ”). I know ...
Environment: Windows server 2008 Web Edition + IIS7 + .net 3.5sp1. I had following error while trying to install SQL 2008 express: It happens after click on “Install” button, when setup collected all necessary info, such as installation path, db server settings, etc. Google found 20+ topics on forums, newsgroups and ms connect, but they hasn’t solutions, or solution is for CTP version of SQL 2008. I start setup with admin privilegies, update windows server, repair .net installation – it’s useless. ...
IE is by far the largest used browser. However, one of the common myths around IE is the security, performance and that it doesn't support latest web standards. Many of the other browsers have openly mentioned in the past that using IE6 is so 2006 days, download blah blah etc., advertising for their browser and thereby conveniently hiding the subsequent IE releases. It strange how people still compare IE6 after which there are 2 releases with all the modern browsers of today. The reality of the fact ...
Some of you who use Firefox (FF) might know about a Firefox plug-in called “IE Tab” which allows you to view a page/tab using the Internet Explorer (IE) rendering engine INSIDE Firefox (so, if some page displays better in IE, you don’t have to leave FF and go open an IE window). Now, Google is doing something similar, but the other way around! Google has recently released “Google Chrome Frame”, a plug-in for IE that allows you to view a page/tab using the Google Browser “Google Chrome” rendering ...

Well, this isn't going to be a long post, but I recently had an experience at work that enlightened me to just how good the Support @ Microsoft really is. A Little Bit of Background Well, a little bit of history on this topic. At work, it's kind of a tradition, as it probably is at many organizations, that when someone leaves their screen unlocked that you change their desktop wallpaper and lock their computer for them, just to kind of remind them that they forgot to lock their screen, and comically ...
MVVM == Model View ViewModel Pattern is a MUST follow pattern in Silverlight (WPF). here is why… Problems it solves: •Tight coupling of layers (ex a query in the UI) •Unit testing is hard/impossible, only functional testing is possible •Assures codes still works correct after a change •ViewModel •Provides View with data model and behavior •View will bind to ViewModel •Wraps data access entirely In light of new technologies like RIA services (which provides CRUD) operations out of the box it is imperative ...
I've been troublshooting some Application Log issues for a client today, and found multiple instances of Commerce Server error 4116, which all message that goes something like this: The Commerce Server runtime has detected that more than # instances of the SiteConfigReadOnlyFreeThreaded object have been created. Creating many SiteConfigReadOnlyFreeThreaded instances will negatively affect the performance of the site. Please refer to the Commerce Server documentation for the recommended use of the ...
In the SSRS Reporting Environment, you may never encounter this error and you live a happy and easy life. We all know an SSRS report can easily ping your server to 100% CPU if you decide to export a 120 page report, to PDF, with charts, etc. etc. You may get a complaint that performance suffers in another application while running the reports and you want to fix it, but do not know how. Then one day you or someone at your firm has decided to do your SQL Server a favor and separate out SSRS from the ...
For many customers the ROI on software licences is one of the key factors when purchasing software, so when deploying an e-Commerce solution the level of return for frameworks, and CMS platforms such as Commerce Server and MOSS are quite justifiable, however it is the extra features – such as the Store Locator that is difficult spending licensing money on. The current store locator within CS 2009 is based on a commercial Microsoft Virtual Earth web-service, which is provided for non-developer used ...
George Mauer gave a great presentation at the Greater New Orleans .Net User Group last Monday. It was titled “You Can’t Dance the Lambda” and it was all about lambdas in .Net. He did a great job explaining lambdas so even people new to them should have come away with a good understanding. Here’s the follow up email he sent out: Thanks again to everyone that attended our meeting yesterday and a double thanks for all the kind words afterward. We had sent a tentative goal of 15 regular attendees by ...
Even though this is 4 years later, it should be of some help to put away some of the SEO myths: http://www.buzzle.com/edito... I think something very interesting to me (surprising, but ingenious) is that Google even tracks how long your site is up and the change of link (how many links to your sites are added each day) and use that to calculate page rank. It's something a lot of SEO are overlooking (maybe purposely) and something that just can't be manufactured (well, considering ...
Last Time… we looked at installing and setting up VisualSVN Server to be our Source Code Management (SCM) system. With our SCM system all set up, now we need to take a look at how to best take advantage of its features. We’ll look at common folder structures for code repositories and what they folder do/mean. Just about anyone who has used some sort of code repository has probably seen this structure: This is a very common pattern because it highlights the three main things you want your repository ...
VisualSVN Server Last time, we talked about Source Code Management (SCM) systems and why you need them. Today we’re going to set up our choice of SCM: Subversion. I used to install Subversion server on a Linux machine and dedicate that box to being a SCM system. The problem I always had was getting it set up and getting it authenticating against Windows credentials. Not long ago, someone turned me on to VisualSVN Server and I haven’t looked back. Here a quick set-by-step for getting a subversion ...
Gmail was down a few days ago. That's a big deal, right? Or was it?Shamelessly reproduced from http://www.modelmetrics.com... It's a bit outdated with this recent outage, but the idea behind the post renders exactly how I feel about it.Gmail experienced an outage in Europe overnight. There’s some handwringing and frustration about it. But you know what? I don’t care. Here’s why.1. The last significant Gmail outage looks to have been in August. ...
For those of you using Gmail and the integrated Gmail chat client you could be affected by this bug if access to the Google talk server is blocked by a firewall or another method. The past 2 weeks I noticed that Gmail is using 100% of one of my processors when I am at the office. Access to the Google talk servers is blocked at our firewall so my Gmail integrated chat client is disabled when in Gmail, at least that is what Gmail tells me. See the attached picture on the right. However, when the integrated ...

One of the sessions I did in St. Louis Day of .NET is about Intermediate WPF. It seems to be one that people seem to have liked, so I’m making the materials available here first for those that may be interested in playing around with it. The overview description was made before the material is done, and I was not able to show 3D graphics within the sample; my apologies. In any case, there’s really no text out there that defines what is Intermediate WPF; so I just created one . The session goes through ...
ClickOnce is a fascinating technology which you get right out of your Visual Studio IDE. For those unfamiliar with ClickOnce, it’s basically a deployment technology which allows developers to publish their windows-based application to a webserver or network share. Any updates to the application can easily be deployed to the client. You can read more here. I’ve been using the technology with almost all my project deployment. This time around I had to change my strategy a bit. Basically our network ...
Wednesday the 2nd, well spent most of the day at Work Scours, taking tests to see if I qualify for grant to take classes for a CCNA. I passed but, boy was my mind tired. Found an interesting news article on Inside Tech, called Stalk Your Way to a New Job. “Interested in a company and need to find a person to contact? Google away. Trying to suss out the guy who’s interviewing you next week? Facebook him!” I used it to find a person I knew at company, I used to work at and found his Email. Also found ...
