ReSharper 6 - Another clever feature!
Recently I was copying a composite property which I will just have to refer to as Team. (This was on client's code so I have to change all the names) In class A, Team looked like: return this.Tom + "-" + this.Dick + "-" + this.Harry; In class B, Tom, Dick and Harry were called UncleTom, UncleDick and UncleHarry. When I copied the composite property from class A to class B, highlighted Tom in this.Tom and pressed control-J, ReSharper went straight to this.UncleTom - "clever" ReSharper! Really I should ......

Das wird für die Alliierten, aber auch für die Deutschen, der längste Tag werden — der längste Tag." ("Believe me, gentlemen, the first twenty-four hours of this invasion will be decisive! It will become for the Allies, as well as for the Germans, the longest day — the longest day.")" LINK The phrase "The ......

Why programming languages are designed the way they are.
A reader of this blog wrote "It would be great to find out the reasons why programming languages are designed the way they are." The first computer languages were the assemblers. When I started programming in 1979, I learnt to read IBM360 machine code as well as write RPG, Cobol and CICS. Assembly languages are easier to use than writing directly in machine code. RPG stands for Report Program Generator and is an excellent language for writing reports to print on fixed pitch font printers. These were ......

The Internet Explorer 6 Countdown continues to count down

At  http://www.ie6countdown.com/, the Internet Explorer 6 Countdown was stuck for some time as its source of data had changed the way the data was collected. Initial Review of APress "Beginning C# Object-Oriented Programming" - ISBN13: 978-1-4302-3530-9
I have recently completed reviewing the APress book "Beginning C# Object-Oriented Programming" - ISBN13: 978-1-4302-3530-9. This is a good book to learn C# by doing something practical. I would give this book an unqualified excellent rating except there was some out of date advice on Exception handling with respect to the use of ApplicationException. (The advice given with Framework 2.0 has been superceeded. - see http://msdn.microsoft.com/e... where it states ......
