I've been hiding at the Hotel Aurora, Lake Como

Sunday, July 31, 2005 11:20 AM

I had a really brilliant week away!

Louisa and I stayed at the Hotel Aurora on beautiful Lake Como in Northern Italy. Now I have to say that this place has to be one of the prettiest places on earth, yes seriously and we can’t wait to go again next year.

Go again? Why? Well this has got to be one of the best places to water-ski and wake-board which my wife and I are nuts about. The setting is stunning but more importantly the water is clean, flat and warm, which as you can imagine is very important. JRC is the water-sports school and is part of the Hotel Aurora.

JRC is run by Piero Gregorio who is arguably one of the best trainers in the world after all he has trained world champions. Anyway, more info can be found here but most of the site is in Italian so get out your babel-fish!

Speaking of world champions, Piero brother Stefano was indeed a world water-ski racing champion but is now one the hotel managers and a fine chef.

The Hotel is a family concern and the hardest working person in the place must be Margaretta, Piero's wife who is also a hotel manager. Margaretta just how many languages can you speak fluently?

From a tech point of view this places wasn't only wi-fi'ed up but the waiting staff were taking food and drinks orders via wi-fi'ed up HP PDA which the kitchen picks up straight away so you can imagine assorts of hassles that are eliminated such hand-writing issues, destruction or loss of order slips. In a business where reputation is important because repeat business and recommendations are the life blood speed and accuracy are the name of the game.
